comic book quickies: its still march !

Fairly light week all in all. Took me by surprise it did. Still batman was out. That always makes it a solid week. OR DOSE IT. READ ON !

BATMAN #18

written by scott snyder art by andy kubert

Uuuuurrrhgh. Your going to hate me like. Canny be helped. I didn't think this issue was all that gid. Now calm doon. It wasny pish or anything. I just didny personally like it all that much. Its aww about them bastards. What's there faces. Canny mind there names. Like I could check. I have the comic right here. Kinda my point though. I don't care about theses characters. Its that brother and sister team from earlier in the run. Dave and not dave ill call them. Not dave is the one who saved batman after he escaped the court of owls maze thingy. You can already see why I don't like her. Both of them feel VERY fan ficy. There young and cool. Actual bastards. We get some back story on there bastard dad. Don't care. Just don't care. Now big batman himself is in the issue. Going a wee bit mad. Damien is apparently actually dead and bats taking his rage out on street punks. The main driving point of the story is bats isny sleeping and he's going to get himself killed if he dosent stop. I don't buy it. I feel like even though his son is dead batman wid be more controlled. Ayes he can go berserk but its only his son and really. Its kinda sucky that there going with the whole genre blind thing. When bats “died” at the end of final crisis did the bat family actually think he was dead ? DID THEY FUCK. I just feel the bat god should be aware of comic book death. Secondly. Get himself killed ? After a week of fighting street punks ? Get tea fuck. This is a batman were talking about. He is a god. He can do anything. Now ayes. New universe and younger batman. But come on folks. That's just weak. Thirdly ! Its not dave that snaps bats out of his funk. You see ware the fan ficky ness comes in now ? Now yes I will say not dave brings up some decent points. I cant really fault what she has to say. Its just coming from her it like a slap in the face. She's just some person. A bloody mortal. Some mook off the street. This issue dose have a pretty niffty fight with a venom infused dog. So it evens out in the end. Heh.

SUPERBOY #18

written by scott lobdell and tom defalco AND tony lee art by r.b silva and iban coello

Come on now superboy. Could you for one issue STOP with the god damn exposition dump intro. For god damn fuck sake. We KNOW your a living weapon. You TELL us that every SINGLE issue. Its driving me INSANE. I just cant take it any more. I kid. Its only a wee nit pick of mine. And who am I to complain about repetition. Likes. Superboy by the way. Its all right. like iv said before. Its no mind blowing and it defiantly has its up and downs. I should drop it. I cant though. I just cant ! Because madness. Also some issues I do quite enjoy. Like this one. It was pretty fun. I dunno why man. Maybe it just appealed to my monster of the week sensibility's. Its a sort of journey to centre on the mind plot. Superboys mind that is. That is some guy like accidentally then on purpose invades superboys mind. I say some guy. Its Dr pycho. No idea if he's new or not. Totes could be for all I know. I'm sorry my lack of DC continuity shames both me and my family. So the he'l on earth arc ended. I assume it went well. I don't get superman you see. Earth looks ok though. So alls well. Big lex luthor appearers at the very end here so maybe the book will be going somewhere at some point. Cools like. Its not like superboys been aww that meaningful a book up to now. Ill keep reading. Maybe it will get consistent at some point. Hopefully !

FANTASTIC FOUR #5

written by matt fraction art by mark bagley

See this pals. This right here. This actual comic. This is a episode of Dr who. Don't know what ell's to say. Just every single thing about it was Dr who ish. Like trope for trope guys. Its very much a time traveller messing with time story. This time it was accidental which was nifty. We even get a nice fillery money shot monster fight. Noice loikes. The fantastic four themselves are pretty un shocked by the weirdness of the other time traveller and his exploits. Fair play likes. They ARE the fantastic four after all. No matter what. Thieve ALLWAYS weirder shite. I quite like that running joke about them. I am likening this run. Its pretty much basic domestic FF nes. That's cool likes. That's pretty much what the four should be about. We do have the added benefit that its a road trip threw time and space. It could do with more Hawaiian shirts in my opinion though. Sues still the most hateful being in existence. Iv come to expect that. its just her thing. Aye reed kept A secret from you. CALM THE FUCK DOON. He's a bastard. You know this. And its no like sues the pinnacle of human morality. Big namor anybody ? So aye. Damn fine comic booking ! I do like it really ! Despite the horrible things I say !

AGE OF ULTRON BOOK TWO

written by brain michael bendis art by bryan hitch

Well this was a surprise. Genuinely didn't ken this was going to be a weekly thing. It is a weekly thing right ? Hella awesome stuff there marvel. Ayes they might have had this sitting for two or so years. But damn son. You canny beat momentum. Its just the best likes. Ayes. It will be expensive. But come on pals. EVENT MOMENTUM. its still very pretty likes. Ayes I guess that's the main selling point here. Big hitch is doing a bang up job. Cant fault it. Wells. I can. Though its probably just a nit pick. The book reads fast. If you get me. You start it and boom. Its done. Its just not very dense. I noticed it in the first issue but I thought id wait and see how things went before bringing it up. Maybe we've just been spoiled by big dan slott and his ultra dense spidy story's. Ayes. That might just be it. Plot wise this issue was fine. Weirdly about the black widow and moon night. Guh. Likes. They were cutting about nick fury's secret underground barber shop thaw. Always awesome when that pops up. Peter parker slept threw the apocalypse. Ayes. Bendis. Ill give you that. That was a nice touch. Still not buying ultron is capable of aww this shite. Really. I ask you. Evil robot invades and conquers earth. THE fuck is big DOOM at. Cant Imagen he'd stand for any of ultrons shite. Like not at all. The issue did have one highly enjoyable moment to be fair. CAPTAIN AMERICAS BACK ON HIS FEET. Safe to say. My expectation are high for the next ish.

Comic book quickies march whenevers

THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #5

written by dan slott art by giuseppe camuncoli

Aye. So aye. Aye hi hi ! Big superior spider-man. That slott. Just blasting them out. No complaining likes. I here slight rumblings that it well end soon ish . Which if true is a damn shame. I'm fairly likening big doc ock and yami petes adventures together. Now ayes. Big ocks no aware of pete. Yet. Hopefully when it happens both party's will be cool about it and set out on a buddy cop adventure. This issue was pretty gid. Ock gets a new supporting cast member in the form of a crazy amazingly one piece ish science chef and he deals with massacre. Now ayes. Ock MIGHT have shot him. But I'm guessing because they didn't show the actual death that he's no actually killed him. We shall see though. Time will tell. Dinny ken how to feel if he has killed massacre. That's a step too far. Even if the bastard deserved it. Like the bastard REALLY dossny deserve to live. Aye. Now that's the point of his character. But I dinny know man. Him just killing folk left right and centre just kinda takes a lot of the fun away. Maybe its just me. When you start putting villains in story's that just kill folk it kinda takes some of the magic away. Like aye. The hero probably shid kill him. That just makes the hero less hero ish if you ask me. In super hero comics that is. And aye I know there's plenty of killers in auld spidys rouges gallery. I dinny like to think about it like that though. It spoils a certain amount of buddy copness for me.

IRON MAN #7

witten by kieron gillen art by greg land

Glorious ! Actually glorious ! The had me at iron man in space but then the backed it by actually making it good. It was a little concerning likes. The first five or so issues were classy monster of the week fun. Aye there was an over arching plot but the individual issues were ooo so monster of the week. So moving it to this we bit more ongoing plottyness was slightly concerning. Well not really. But it is marketed as a tie in / aftermath to last years A vs X. which is slightly weird considering we're now onto the next big event. Don't let it put you off though. Its cracking stuff. What's not to love. Everybody's at least a little fond of auld shell head and space its self is way wicked. Rad even. This issue we get big tony stark cutting about space jail dressed as a jedi bantering with his transformer lawyer buddy then shit gets amazing when tony takes to the arena to clear his name with a spot of gladiatorial combat. atualy love comics. Now aye. Greg land is STILL on art duties. Its still fine though. Id go as far to say it even looks a bit gid. Controversial I know. The glossiness just sort of works for this run. Its no bad thing. Also his name is fairly easy to spell. That makes me happy.

ALL NEW X MEN #8

written by brian michael bendis art by david marquez

Mmmmmmm. Ayes. Tasty comic right here. Damn likes. We live in a world. With a good x men comic. Now now. Calm doon likes. Calm doon. I troll. I'm sure there are some damn fine x men comics out there. It just was never my bag. I admit that. I'm just no a big x men fan. This though. Hot damn. This is an actual comic. I wasny too hyped when we aww herd big bendis was leavening the avengers and moving to x men. Aye I was aww like ill give it a go. Genuinely wasny expecting to like it. Not enough to continue with it. How god damn amazingly wrong was aye likes. Now one of my esteemed colleague said to me recently this was possible the best of the marvel now stuff. I kinda have to agree. The only thing that could contest it would be iron man. On its best day though. All new x men has been both constantly grate and cranked out at rapid fire pace. canny fault that. Like in no way. This ish mostly focused on angel and kid angel witch is gid. Kid angle seemed a bit fun and it was nice to see him get a bit of time to banter about. Also the avengers made an appearance. inevitable but very nicely done. They had to find out about the original x men being in the present at some point. And yeah. Jean grey is like waaaaaay evil. That's already a thing. For some reason. Cant really explain it or give you any context for it. Its not like she's a super villain. But if she was her actions would make more sense. Maybe scots just made of evil and contact with him turns others evil. Those wacky x men. What are they like !

AGE OF ULTRON BOOK ONE

written by brian michael bendis art by bryan hitch

So this happened. Genuinely wasn't expecting it so soon. It actually stealthed its way up on me. And it was fine. Nothing to flashy and nothing too bad. Well there was one thing but we will get to that in a bit. Aye. So ultron. Meh ? Is he really that big a deal ? I know it dosent really matter. But I duuno man. I like robots. Robots are way cool likes. I'm no knocking robots. And I know ultrons probably kicking about with an army or some super weapon shit but last time he started shite the avengers took him doon in like a arc. I mean. Just look at that cover. Do you believe he just took all those fools ? And FUCKING hawk eye is the last man standing ? I just dinny believe it. God damn hawk eye likes. Its mostly him we follow in this first issue. And I'm fine with that. Really I am. I'm sick to god damn death of hawk eye. But its only the first issue. And's I can take it. Ill complain if he continues to be the focus. So it seams ultron has won and the marvel heroes are cutting about a dark escape from new York future. Cools. Loota room there for fun stuff. This issue really didn't do much with it but really that's what most event number ones are like. Aye so over all it was just fine. Nothing mind blowing though the art was pretty gorgeous from hitch. Lots of wreaked architecture and that. Now see that one big thing that was wrong with it ? That be the last page. Offffft that last page likes. There's not a single thing they could have done that could be more offensive to my sensibility. Right. So get this. Big captain America. The legend of our youth. Is soo broken by the apparent victory of ultron that he has to sit in the corner and cry. Aye pal. FUCK NO. I don't care how badly the heroes lost. I don't care how many people died. I don't care how utterly hopeless the situation is. At no point would captain FUCKING America give up let alone sit in the corner and sulk. It widdny matter if he was the sole surviving human being on the planet. That man would be out there. Fighting the fight ! Did anybody see how he dealt with the last days of fear itself ? Shite looked hopeless then. His shield was broken. Dude just ladded up and carried on. Admittedly he went a little insane but he did so in a lad way. So aye. Little disappointed in you there bendis

HAPPY # 4

written by grant morrison art by darick robertson

Ayes. So. Spoilers right. Better run if you dinny wanna here em. Because son. I'm just goona spoil the ending. Ayes so right. Here we go. So happy right. I think happy has a happy ending ! I know right ? How awesome is that. now I say I think it has a happy ending. I could be wrong likes. I could be interpreting it wrong or missing the point of certain bits and the last page in particular. But if I'm right how awesome ! Bloody big morrision likes. He can certainly do the dark stuff all right but most of what iv read from him him has ended well. And now we can maybe even add happy to that list. Cracking stuff likes. Last week I talked about how morrison gets comics. And he totally dose ! Now this issue really shows that off with a big cavalry charge from an army of imaginary friends. I gosh darn love cavalry charges in fiction. Its those big damn heroes moments that really are a huge part of why I like comics and films and that. There those very special moments that get across the purest emotions and joys. So aye. Happy was pretty damn good. Bleak as ALL FUCK. But ultimately well done. And we hope. We really hope. It was a deliberate parody of the work of mark miller. We hope.

GREEN LANTERN # 18

written by geoff johns art by alex sinclare and ardian syaf

Cracking adventures in the death zone ! Goota tell you. That's one happening place like. Seems like every cunt is hanging about there theses days. Trendy ass bastards if you ask me. Well they are dead. So that's goota be a downer I guess Wells I spouse there only kinda dead. Its confusing. Still though. This issue we get the first meeting of simon baz and big hal jordan. It dosny go all that well. Mainly because of sinestro. That big bastard. He went a tad ring mad. Slightly understandable because the universe is in danger. Still not the lad thing to do. Aye so by the end of the comic sinestro and baz are once again in the land of the living but hals still stuck half dead. He gets a weirdly awesome moment ware he considers suicide so he can become a black lantern to escape. Lets see how that plays out. It could get AMAZING. So green lantern likes. Its a whole thing isn't it. Its kinda like DC's biggest thing. Kinda actually is likes. Well aye batman and superman and that. So yeah. Green lanterns like the third big dude in book terms. And has been for ages. That's pretty nifty loikes.

DETECTIVE COMICS #18

written by john layman art by jason fabok

Dinny let that cover fool you. This issue has almost NOTHING to do with the death of damian wayne. Almost comically nothing to do with it really. There's like a page ware big Bruce is at the grave and is aww. Damians deed. Aww wells. Lets go drop in on the penguin. See what he's up to. Now it be aww well and fine if batman was raging. Just dropping fools left and right. But naw. He's incredibly calm. You'd expect him to go brutalize the penguin. But naw. He just beats him doon wea the banter. Good likes. Must be those legendary bat god nerves of steal ! Why shid the bat god care about the fate of lesser beings ! I kid though. Its probably because its a different writer and or damian isn't actually dead. We will have to wait and see really. Gid issue though. Detective comics has this damn interesting vibe going on. Its really quite special when I think about it. Its realistic but fun. Actually its a bit more than that. Its kind of difficult to pin down or to put into words. Basically I like it. And that's just awesome. Its got the penguins patter doon. That's important. The previous run had some bits and bobs with the penguin but honestly they felt a little boring. not so here. The dudes a bastard AND fun. Good combo likes. Its helps that there's a penguin plot going on ware he's losing his shit. Both figuratively and literally. So aye. Good times.

GREEN ARROW #18

written by jeff lemire art by andrea sorrentino

REALLY quite likening green arrow. Yes. Yes . This is actually happening. Not to be disparaging towards the character or trying new things. You know. I think its safe to say we're all just set in our ways. Too auld to change or come to a new way of thinking about things. No ? Just me then ? Fair play likes. I'm a pretty static guy. Change to me is a little bit like the devil. Now this issue. This issue was incredibly metal gear. Green arrow go's and gets him self an otacon and stealth's about a office looking for clues. Then during the cliff hanger he seemingly falls to his death while his new otacon shouts arrow ? ARROW !! ?? so ayes. Hella metal gear. Now that's a very good thing. Like evanglion metal gear is a great thing to blot to an existing franchise. The writing and art also combine to make things fantastically 90s. again its one of those thing I find hard to describe. But it feels very 90s. Very late 90s at that. Hella x files ish if you get me. Like if 1998 was a comic. This comic would be closely related to it. Ayes. So amazingly good comic. Id recommend it to pretty much anyone. Aye. Its yin of them bastards.

Comic book quickies double feature

Wells I missed a week back there so instead of skipping a week lets just go a wee bit mad and power through seventeen comics. Leafing threw two weeks of comics has really shown me how much I actualy get and the sheer quality of comics at the moment. I'm my opinion at least. I'm sure every generation thinks there comics are the best. Lest see if I'm as justified I'm my beliefs as those other glorious generations that came before.

MASKS #4

written by chris roberson art by dennis calero

I fucking love masks. Genuinely fucking love masks. Both this comic and actual masks. There both just so amazingly cool. My love of actual masks go's back a hell of a long way. I'm pretty sure in primary school we were read a story about teenagers wearing masks. Now I'm pretty sure the moral of the story was mask are bad and we should just be true to our self. What I took away from it was how fucking cool masks are. Crash bandicoots tiki masks just reinforced this in my mind. And hell. Super heroes in general. Most of the bastards ware masks. Its a whole thing. Now masks the comic has been pretty damn good. The first issue had art by alex ross so it was interesting to see if the story could hold up by its self without a super star artists. And yeah. It totes dose. I was looking for a book that scratched that particular golden age noire hero book for a wee bit but in my experience not a lot of comics out there play the eras tropes deservedly straight. There's a lot of deconstructions out there is what I'm getting at. Lots of stuff about golden age hero's being real and bastardly because of the standards of the time period. NONE of that here. Just proper old fashioned putting a team together fun. It dose a damn good job being a team book too. I know who like two maybe three guys on the team are but the books dose a good enough job of making everybody likeable that I WANT to find out who the others are and what there deal is. So basically you should give masks a try. If nothing ell's I can say will tempt you. Just remember. ZORO IS ON THE TEAM ! How awesome is that !

GREEN ARROW #17

wtitten by jeff lemire art by andrea sorrentino

Well man this was a genuinely happy surprise. I'm not really a green arrow fan. What I know of him is what iv seen in the justice league cartoon and batman the brave and the bold. Iv not watched any of the new show even though this jumping on point issue is most likely designed to appeal to the shows fans. In the spirit of checking out new number one issues I gave it a try. And yeah. Hella good comic. Its an amazingly first issue first issue. If that makes sense. What with it being issue seventeen of the book. A LOT of my love for it comes from the art. Its gorgeous. Very scratchy and indi. Its quite trendy but might not be to everybody's tastes. Its very shadow heavy and the faces sort of lack detail. Its fine though. It gets the tone across perfectly. Its slightly difficult for me to judge how well it dose as a comic about an arrow themed super hero. Cause aye I here hawk eye over at marvel is knocking it out of the park right now. Fuck hawk eye though. Sick to god damn death of him. So aye. Really happy I gave green arrow a try. Its been trailed in the adds in DC comics for what seems like a wee while now and because of its slightly grim and gritty cover I was a wee bit put off. It delivers though and ill definitely give the second issue a go to see if it can keep up the good work. Stay tuned.

UNCANNY AVENGERS #4

written by rick remender art by john cassaday

Offft. Pals. Actual quality comic right here. It practically ooozies quality. I'm not even kidding. I'm exaggerating obliviously but I'm not kidding. That's the overriding vibe of uncanny avengers. Quality. The writing. The art. Utter quality. So much soo that its become my avengers book of choice since big bendis stepped down from writing duties. The red skull right. The red skull is possibly the biggest bastard ever to live. We all know that. Its just this book takes the time to really hammer that home. Every thing he say's and dose is just there to emphasize just how much of a cunt he really is. Now I know I shouldn't be surprised by this. Its not like the skulls ever been any less of a bastard lately. Its just so god damn entertaining to watch him be as hateful as he can be. Its EVEN more entertaining to see big captain America not take any of the red skulls shite. Like not even for a second. The red skull is cutting around with professor xsaviers brain combined with his own. He's probably now the most powerful psychic on earth. He can mind wammy ENTIRE city's and make them mutant hateing monsters. He can shut down folks brains before they can get close enough to attack them. Dose captain America gee a shite ? Dose he FUCK. Cap just runs up and paunches him. Like a hero. That's this comic. Villains being UTTER bastards and heroes being AWESOME.

THE FLASH #17

written by francis manapul and brian buccellato art by francis manapul

For the past god knows how many issues gorilla grod and his army have been attacking central city. There have been many gorilla puns. It has been AMAZING. Its pretty much been a wee flash event. Well not a event. Its not been marketed as such. Its just an arc. It dose have that summer block buster vibe to it. Like it could have been easily jazzed up into a big proper event. I'm guessing if there were more flash books like all the green lantern comics then it would have been. Also. There's a mammoth in this issue. That's really something. Most if not all comics should have a very special gust appearance from a mammoth. If you ask me that is. The flash is one of those books that always delivers. Some months you see that its out and your like aye ok that's cool. You don't get all too excited. Then you read it and remember. Its always gid ! Its just proper silver agey fun with less weirdness and more action. Now I'm sure the new version of the rouges will have taken some flack for gaining actual super powers but they really did well in this arc. Being less jokey and more aggressive to the flash while still maintaining the ability to buddy cop with him. Now that gorilla warfare has ended were being teased with the reverse flash. Hyped likes !

TEEN TITANS #17

written by scott lobdell and fabian nicieza art by eddy barrows

Ehhh. Guuuuuuuuuhhhh. Its grim likes. Ahh that's not fair. I really should stop getting teen titans. Though as we have hopefully established in the past. I'm fairly mad. So im a wee bit unlikely to stop. This issue was very guh. Not bad but not good either. Well to be fair. There was nothing particularly wrong with it. Its just kind of guh. Un memorable if you will. Tim drake is a colossal bastard this issue. now there's a very good plot reason for this. The thing is in this very un memorable issue his bastard ness will be the ting I remember. Also bunkers all about god now. seriously he gets like three things to say and two of them reference god in some way. Was he religious before ? Did I like miss a whole part of his character ? Its really grating. I sort of assumed all comics were very much anti religion. Like aye it exist in the universes of the charters but I don't expect any heroes to be religious. Well maybe dare devil. But he's already an ultra bastard as it is. The art is ... ok. Like it actually is. Every single thing is nicely drawn. Everything except the titans expressions. There ALLWAYS smiling. Dear god the smiles. The actual scary as all fuck smiles. I just don't understand the smiles. WHY DC ? WHHHHY !

AQUAMAN #17

written by geoff johns art by paul pelletier

Now see this here issue. Amazingly a filler issue. You know something ? I'm totes fine with that. Aquaman just got done with a big cross over event with the justice league. Needs some time to recover likes. Shit did get fairly real. A few city's were sort of sinked after all. Kinda. So aquaman is king of Atlantis again. That's happening. It is indeed a thing. Its ... cool ? I guess ? I suppose there will be a lot of drama from now on. A lot of chain of command shite. Shid be good. Also I should say this issue was INCREDBLEY aquaman. There was like whaling and eco terrorists and big curry got all protective of his sea critters. Really heart warming stuff. So really after all its probably not filler. Things do indeed happen. But it dose FEEL like filler. Not necessarily a bad thing to be. Filler every now and again can be a good thing. Give charters the time to breath instead of just lurching from one event to another. Aye so good issue. Go read aquaman.

FF #4

written by matt fraction art by michael allred

Totes a valentines day comic. And that's ok. She hulk go's on a date with ... someone. We're probably meant to know who he is but I'm afraid I'm not up to date on my she hulk back story. Most of the issue is wacky hi jinx with the moleodies trying to brake she hulk and here date up with the help of bently. The don't succeeded. Like at all. Its very shticky. But well done. If you get me. Like the past three issue's. FF is pretty rocking. It just succeeds in what it sets out to do. A modern age cutting about comic with a silver age skin. Gotta love that.

BATMAN INC #8

written by grant morrison art by chris burnham

Riiiiiight. Big ass big issue. This ish has some biiiiiig stuff going on. REAL big stuff. Maybe. Big spoilers pal . So if you don't want to here them id advise you to stop reading. Right. So . Wee daimion wayne is dead as fuck. Maybe. This is a comic after all. And on top of that its a Morrison comic. So I'm not really believing anything. Hell of a good way to die though. Fighting a fully grown clone of your self. That's fairly neat. Wee bastard go's down fighting too. Even gets a gid its been an honer speech in with greyson. Really cracking very actiony stuff. Basically everything you've come to expect from morrisons batman. So yeah. It will be damn interesting to see what happens. I cant see damion really being dead. But hey maybe it will. Not entirely sure why they'd want damion dead . Aye he's the scrappy doo of the bat family. But he's MENT to be a scrappy. Its his thing.

SAGA # 10

written by brian k. vaughan art by fiona staples

So there's this thing. This monster looking thing. And it use to be a planet. Ayes saga. I like what you did there. Yup. Another kinda late saga review. Apparently there was some sort of kill storm over in that there U.S of A. that delayed some but not all of the other weeks comics. Sagas soo good its cursed likes. So this issue we get flaming apes upside down space witches. Greate stuff pals. Greate stuff. Dosny matter one shit what I say here. Your already reading saga. Everybody is. That's sagas thing. And that's COOL. Were all connected by our love of this here trendy comic. Really makes you think.

GREEN LANTERN NEW GAURDIANS #17

written by tony bedard art by aaron kuder

Man. There's very few books out there that continue to surprise me with there goodness. Aye there are better book out there. Crazier books. More awesome books. But there are few that improve so dramatically. That iv read at least. Its STILL improving ! Ever since that mind boggling improvement of that zero issue that came out of fucking nowhere ! So big kyle ryaner channels simon the digger this issue. Dudes trapped in a series of alternate reality's. And he's not having any of it. Not for a single second. He's confronted by something bizarre and he's like no . To fuck with this. I'm a green lantern AND now WHITE lantern AND I WILL SORT THIS OUT. Fair play to him. He's really come a long way in theses last few issues. Most wrinkle ridden young man iv ever seen though. Yeah. If there's one complaint about the art is it makes kyle look like he's in his mid to late 40's. not entirely sure what that's all about.

VIBE # 1

written by geoff johns and andrew kreisberg art by pete wood

I had to buy this book. There was no way that I wouldn't. No way that I couldn't. I bought it for the vibe. The actual sheer vibe. So there's a super hero called the vibe. The world might not be real. Iv come accept that. Its probably just a thing. See this issue. This issue was a incredibly first issue ish. Even more so than that green arrow up there, dare I say hundreds of times more first issue ish. That's mainly because there's like ten first issues in here. All lovingly crammed together. Its something magical really. Its like big goff and the gang took every first issue trope they could think of and mooshed them all together in some sort of nightmarish comic making machine. It works. It really dose. I now know who vibe is AND like him. Chalk that up as a win big goff. Do I like him enough to take a gander at the new justice league of America book ? Ahh dunno man. Something just dosent sit right with me out that yin. I don't know why it exist and the team seems oddly weird. Oddly weird in that its going for realism I think and the whole corporate working for the man team vibe . I dunno man. Just dunno.

JUSTICE LEAGUE #17

written by geoff johns art by ivan reis and paul pelletier

Wells you canny complain that this wee cross over event dragged like. I really enjoyed it. It was loads of fun. It was an aquaman mini event for fuck sake. That just existing makes the world a better place to live in. this comic contains SEA HORSE CAVARLY. What ell's could you possibly want from a comic ? Well if its competent writing you want this arc also saw a return to form for justice league as a book. Maybe its just me but I wasn't really digging the post dark side stuff. It was too weak. I mean it wasn't the iconic powerhouse world saving id want from the flag ship justice league. Aye there was good bits here and there and the banter never really dipped. Its just shite like superman and wonder woman being an item. Ayes fun scene's did come from it but the idea its self is fairly shitey. This arc though. This arc has been focused. There was a clear threat and the battle felt epically done. Things happened and things changed. Aye I'm all for just having charters cut about and yes there's a hell of a vibe having the big guns of DC just cut about but when you've got all the A list lads together you really should put them to good use. The arts also a big part of enjoying the arc. They switched over aquamans regular artist for the event. Good choice I have to say. He dose epic quite well. So aye. I hope justice league continues to improve moving on from this and its post first arc lull.

ACTION COMICS #17

written by grant morrison art by brad walker and rags morales

Oh Morrison. Who dosnny love grant Morrison. Wee mad bastard that he is. Now we all know that. We all get that he wrights completely mental storeys damn well. But that's not why I like Morrison. I like Morrison because he gets comics. He gets comics are meant to be awesome. He gets superman isent a cunt. Aye he has flaws. Some times he can be too bizarre for his own good. A lot of this run of action comics didn't feel right on first reading. But here's the thing. As we near the end. Every things starting to click into place. And it is awesome. Superman is fighting the evil corporate multiveres monster superman from back in the zero issue. Shit gets fairly meta. The evil super man has a AMAZING line about super man being at his best when he's dyeing. You here that and your like. Aye. Kinda. But I'm not agreeing with you yah bastard ! Morrison's action comics is a difficult one to recommended. Yes its damn good. But I cant quite describe why it its good. And aye. Its quite mad. That's a good thing though. I wonder how well ill like it after the new creative team takes over. I liked the annual they did. So that's a good sign at least.

Pokémon \n[1]

So, we need to talk about pokemon.

it's getting out of hand. To put it bluntly, they're running out of names.

First, Black and White; the versions have always been named after opposing colors, so this is little surprise.

But in that game, we started to see the formula clearly.

[player] gets [starter] and fights [rival]. But they must face the leader of team [villain] led by the mysterious [N].
And now, pokemon X and Y are being released. the most lazily named games ever.

Comic book quickies 13.2.13

God damn. Time likes. It just wont stop. Well another week. Time for more comics. Aw right week. Not too packed but the books that were out were of nifty quality.

BATMAN #17

written by scott snyder art by greg capullo

Things are going to get fairly controversial here quite soon. I'm sorry for this in advance. Now I think this last issue of the death in the family arc was a massive let down. After reading it I lost a wee bit of my faith in humanity. As a species we may have lost a good ten or so years because of this issue. I really, really thought we were past this at this point. I thought we were better than this. Its a damn shame likes. This issue in my opinion is the first dud issue of synders run. Well aye the annual had a similar problem in shiteness to be fair. Now put your torches and pitch forks down. Most of the issue was out right cracking. Proper batman being batmanny stuff. Lot a great moments and some fabulous joker banter. The image of bats ayes being broken and STEAMING will probably stay with me for some time. Like pretty much everything the problem lies with the ending. Its amazingly unnecessary. Hatefully unnecessary. Just goona out right spoil it here. Run for the hills if you don't want to here. Basically the bat family no longer trust bruce. FUCK THAT. That's something that would have flew twenty to twenty five years ago. But holly fuck not today. The youth of today will read this comic and be inspired by it. They will think that's the way to write comics. You can see why I think this will set the world back. Batman is a god ok. He's not a cunt. Well he kind of is but not in a bad way The prep time batman may be nothing but an internet joke but that's what batman IS in our harts. He's an amalgamation of all the batmen we've ever watched or read. He's spent the last seventy years becoming a god and while this batman may young that's no excuse for failure like this. This whole arc was about the joker being the voice of people that think batmans better on his own being a grim and gritty bastard. Now I may be horribly wrong here but I'm pretty sure that's meant to be taken as an insult. Batman has a team that he kicks about with. Its a whole part of his history. Gona just deal with it. By making the bat family untrusting in bruce just makes them horribly unlikeible. Its a huge miss step if you ask me. Your basically saying the jokers right and those that believe his view that bats is better off alone is right. Dose snyder actually believe that ? I don't want to believe that. Now aye this is just comics. Nothing really matters on the actual story level. Things will eventually be fine. But like I say I worry for this issues effect on comics to follow and its influence on other writers. Synders batman run is beloved and a lot of people are sure to read it. I thought we were nearing a new era. A new age of comics. A neo modern age. Stuff like slotts run on spider-man and almost all of snyders batman pointed to more ladness in comics. Probably shouldn't jump to conclusions though. Ill see how this disappointing plot line turns out. Its very likely I could be calling it genius by next month.

FANTASTIC FOUR # 4

written by matt fraction art by marck bagley

Sue storm is a terrible human being. We all get that right ? She's just awful. I'm not even sure what it is I dislike about her. She's just so deeply not nice. Its maddening. It may be because her sole charter trait is being a mother. Now being a mother that's also a super hero. That's fairly nifty. Shame she dosent carry it off well. Now being a mother in fiction means that she's totes rocking the trope of a mother will commit genocide to save her children. Now aye. That might be a very true fact of life but come on people ! Lets get past that ok ? Now aye. I don't have any specific examples to throw at sue. But for fock sake guys. That's like basically her. Also I'm pretty sure she slept with namor. I bring this up because this whole issue was about how awesome she is. Now iv read this issue. That's why I'm reviewing it right here. Why is she so awesome ? Read the whole issue. No actual clue. Basically she hot. I think that's what the issue was getting at. Now that I actually think about it. Maybe that's the joke. Maybe everybody's aware of how amazingly un likeable she is and this issues shilling of her was all in jest. Lets hope likes. Reed richards ain't no lad either. He pissies all over the prime directive in quite a spectacular way to declare his un dieing love for sue. If it wasn't messing with the whole culture of a alien race I could totes get behind it. Basically thank fuck the things on the team. His massive ladness keeps them readable.

THE STANDARD # 1

written by john lees art by jonathan rector

Purtty nifty wee indi super hero book. First issue was a little rough but I'm willing to see ware it go's. There's a fair bit o gorn and cynicism in here but its tempered by old fashioned hope. Id say its too early to tell which way it will go but the mission statement by the author at the back gives me hope. I quite like it when the writer of a book gives a wee word about what's going to be happening at the back of the first issue. I spose it just there because that cant have a letters page. Still nifty as fuck to me though. The plots really just ok. There's two heroes called the standard. One who kicked about the golden/ sliver age and the second standard is the firsts side kick whos taken up the mantle. The second standards basically booster gold. A celebrity super. Nothing rang wea that. Nothing too ground braking either. Now I really cant judge ware the book will go. Its looking like it will take shots at grim and gritty tropes but it dose have them same tropes as part of the plot. So like I said. Its hard to tell ware this series will go just on the strength of this first issue.

AMERICAS GOT POWERS # 5

written by jonathan ross art by bryan hitch

So still amazingly were now five whole issues in and the hero of the book is STILL a lad. Yes the world and almost every other character in it is AMAZINGLY EVIL. But the hero is STIL a hero. Maybe its just me that's hung up on this. But in this day and age the very fact that the hero isn't even a little bit of a cunt is something to marvel at. In my book at least. a character that previously seemed like a bit of a lad dose seem to go a wee bit power crazy but that is done by having david tenant turn into giant man. Don't know how to feel about that. This books main problem is its loss of momentum. Its a real shame likes. It started so god damn well with that double first issue. Kinda goat board of the whole hunger games / running man plot. Its aww right likes. Its just no tournament arc though. To be fair this issue is more world plot stuff happening. The evil American military decides to just bomb all the super powered teens. Because evil.

KATANA # 1

written by ann nocenti art by alex sanchez

So I gave kantana go this week. Cant say I regret it. In the last year or so I decided to give more comics a try. Number ones that is. Within reason though. I'm no goona actively depress my self by seaking out comics by the dark creators to read. So I picked up this issue and gave it a quick flick threw. Art wasny bad so I gave it a chance. It was a fairly good read. Some parts were slightly hard to follow but that may just be my ignorance of the charter coming into play. What's here though is good action and by the end of it I didn't dislike katana. Id call that a win like. So this book is part of a new line spotlighting the new justices laeuge. It will be interesting to see what that books all about because right now I'm not entirely sure why its happening. Its a weird back and forth comics have. They have a big super hero team gain new obscure members that go on to have interesting story's but eventually they have to put the iconic team together. Its a whole ting.

SUPERBOY #17

written by tom deefalco art by r.b silva

So hell on earth is still going on. Not really complaining just it feels like there's been a hundred issues of it all ready. Cant really complain about that either as iv been missing the superman issues as I only get super girl and super boy. Its not all that bad. Probably unnecessary. Its totes one of them cross overs ware you need to buy comics you don't usely buy. He'll is a bit of a weak villain. He's curb stomping everyone. Not sure how or why. And bloody super girls like actually in love with him. Maybe. Sucks if she actually is. Could turn out well if she's not. A few nifty things have come out of the cross over though. Like batmans hella pimpy fur snow gear and super boy having to ware superman's suite for plot reasons leading supes to cutting about in his action comics causal jeans and S logo t shirt. Iv most likely said before but even though supermans the last hero you should give a causal costume too this one bizarrely works on him. Not actually sure what happened this issue. Aye the plot advanced but there was this silver surfer bug dude and galactus looking guy. I'm pretty sure drugs were involved with the writing of this issue. That or it was intentionally written to appear like it was written on drugs. I liked it !

comic book quickies 8.2.13

Dark days friends. No action comics this week. Offt likes. I don't remember action being late before. I think its come to all of us as a bit of a shock really. It was always a solid week one tittle. Always there for us. Waiting there in the corner with its not quite perfect but occasionally AMAZING-nes. Now its probably the only way this thing could have went but I really don't like that books have lost there place in the four week cycle. Before I could be aww like. Aye. Aquaman. That's a week four book. Or like. Aye. Batman. That's totes a week three book. Fuck knows ware there at now. Cast adrift on a schedule-less sea of madness. Sad really. Well no. it was inevitable. These things happen likes. Delays in making the book and wanting to promote it at different times. Its fine to be fair. inevitable is bad word though. Sickened that I had to use it despite its rightness. Damn fun to say in an agent smith voice though. Bumper week all in all. Despite the grate loss of action that is. eight books in all. Surprisingly no clunkers ether. One of those weeks ware I just read threw everything in a flash. That's always something gid.

ALL NEW X MEN # 7

written by brian michael bendis art by david marquez

Big bendis likes. He's still on form. Still knocking it out of the god damn park. I'm STILL buying x men comics. We live in that world now. Shock AND horror. I was never that big x men fan it has to be said. My exposure to them was limited to the 90s cartoon and the films. Now the 90s cartoon was pretty rocking. Instilled in me a life long love of cable. The movies were fun too. The SHEER vibe of x2 likes. Magical almost. Defiantly a true movie of the summer of my youth. The comics though. I duno likes. There's just so damn many of them ! Do people really love the x men this much ? Yeah. They probs do. Not me though. All new x men though. Its probably because its bendis. As we've discussed before id probably follow bendis off a cliff. Its just so lad-ly written likes. Everybody's just so fun and un bastardly. Yet. These are the x men we're talking about after all. They'll probably drop a asteroid full of angst on the earth at some point. For now though all new x men still brings the momentum AND the fun.

SAGA #9

written by brian k. vaughan art by fiona staples

Classy indi comic booking at its best. Has to be said. Now there's a long and interesting story to why I'm reviewing this issue late. It involves industrial espionage and ninjas. I assume. The box containing saga went missing on its way to my local. Well that was nether long nor interesting. Hmm. None out of two ain't bad ! Canny beat a good bit of saga. Well mudman can. In my eyes at least. Probably not in the eyes of pretty much everyone ell's in the world. Fair play different tastes and all that. Saga is a class read though. If your a person and sentient. You'll probs love saga. Iv said it before and ill likely say it each time I review saga. If you read it. You'll love it. Not entirely sure why. Probably because its cool. Just plain cool. Cooly cool if you will. This issue is a wee spot light on the will. The caped bounty hunter dude. Seams pretty cool like though we here he's a right bastard. Shames like.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #20

written by brian michael bendis art by sara pichelli

Gotta say. I got pretty much everything I wanted from this issue. A big fight ! Too many comics theses days go for talking and banter instead of the pure glory of combat. Its a damn shame. I'm sure iv made this exact point like a hundred times before so lets move on. Aye so this issue milles gets into his first tussle with venom. Or a venom. Symbiont's in the ultimate verse are weird. There was that one in ultimates 3 that was like a doom bot or something. Dooms a cool guy no matter the universes like. Any way's miles's first fight with the inky nightmare go's relatively well. Aye well miles dad might be dead/ dyeing. So like I say. Relatively well. Miles dad ain't really that cool of a guy. Bit of a punk really. Bit of a buzz kill if you ask me. Now I'm not wishing death on the poor fella. Just saying he could stand to be a tad more interesting. Like who the fuck takes being awesome and makes it out to be a bad thing ? Miles's dad that's who. I'm sure its commentary on parenting attitudes or some shite. Its just not for me thank you very much. Venom though. Gotta love venom. He so fighty. sept when he isn't. But he is here ! I think we can chalk this issue up as a win pals.

IRON MAN #6

written kieron gillen art by greg land

Aye so Tony stark is cutting about space now and this comic is pretty much everything you'd want from Tony stark cutting about space. He gets into a space battle AND then try's to bed a space princes. He invokes star trek while doing it too. What a lad. What a SPACE lad. Its took a long while likes but were finally here. Finally here at the final frontier ! Yas ! Knocked that out of the park likes. Ayes so stark left fer space in the last issue of the last run. But he didn't because marvel now. But he's out there now. Being the most starky he can be. Good on him. Iron man in space could be very fun. And indeed this comic was fun. That's all I can really say to back up this run. Its fun. What more do you want from a comic ? Aye greg lands still doing the art. Its probably shite. Don't personally care really. Its fine for suit stuff and other assorted robot junk. Yes his space woman are just as porny clone-ish as his earth woman. That's funny likes. Deaths head makes appearances in the issue for like a single panel. That's something all right. Don't really ken ware all this space stuff is going but I hope it keeps up this issues levels of fun.

SUPER DINOSAUR # 17

written by robert kirkman art by jason howard

Oh super dinosaur. You wee super amazing Saturday morning cartoon. What are ya like. Astoundingly braw is what ya are. Cause that's what super dinosaur is. A Saturday morning cartoon. But like from the 90s. In vain of street shark or the biker mice from mars. Mainly street sharks. DAMN that was a show. Back at this issue we've got poop jokes. Poop joke every ware ! A little rude ! Still very kid friendly is the thing. Oh and action packed. Canny forget that. So not only is there an inner earth there's also an inner moon too. Populated by bug people. Who eat poo. Fucking love comics. Like.

MUDMAN #6

written and art by paul grist

Oh fuck yes. Yaaaaaaas. Its back ! Its back in the game ! Big mudman descending from the heavens on wings of excellentness and .... mud. Aye I foooooooking love mudman. Might just be my favour comic. Thinking about it I most likely say that a bout a lot of comics. So mudman is like the all time champ out of all of them. Mudman and one piece. Thems the two buddy cops of greatness. A lot of mudmaans fantastic un defeatble amazing greatness comes from the Britishness of the book. Not gona lie guys. Morrison's the supermarket makes an appearance this issue. Humanity just got better people. FUCK depression. FUCK recession. Mudmans making it all better. Morrison's is in the god damn GAME. That's another thing. Mudmans sort of fearless in its references. Like its not some off brand Morrison's. Its actual Morrison's. Also music from the cure appears, and its awesome. Gona buy mudman likes. To me its utterly perfect so to you it but be at least passable. Worth a pick up if you ask me. As a balancer I should say that mudman the character was a little whiny ish this week. Not all out unbearable whiny just a little teenage asgnsty. Its possible that's a bad trope necessary for cultivating the teenage super hero vibe that mudman dose so well. Reminds me of ultimate peter parker a little bit. Least we forget despite his utter ladness ultimate pete could be a complete bastard from time to time. Teenagers like.

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #3

written by dan slott art by ryan stegman

Right. Deep breaths pals. You might actually want to sit down for this. Superior is still perfectly fine. I know ! SHOCKING to here isn't it ? Man this is something I think your going to have to learn to cope with. A comic that has a history of being fine. CONTINUING to be fine. Aye its scary stuff that consistency is. But your all big boy and girl comic readers now. I think you can handle it. Now I may be being to overly optimistic but I have faith in you guys likes. Its ock spidy vs the vulture this ish. Vultures a bit of a weird bastard all said. Using wee kids as mooks. Sets ock off rageing as it makes him flash back to when he was beaten as a kid. You feel bad for the bastard I guess. Its hard though. Ocks dad was the one beating him and yes beating your kids is very wrong BUT I cant stress enough just the sheer size, density and funcktasticness of papa ocks mustache. I could totes take a solo comic for that facial hair. Its that rocking. Yami peater parker is still a treat to behold. He's not in it as much as last issue but the ghost buddy cop vibe is still there in full force. Fuck yeh buddy cops !

DETECTIVE COMICS #17

written by john layman art by jason fabok

Damns. Almost missed this off here. Don't really no what happened. Almost went with out creating an entry for detective comics. Thought I did. Looks like it disappeared actually. I blame ghosts. About the actual comic though. I'm really quite loving this run. Its well written and has good art. BOOM review done. I'm out o here. Well I'm back. Ill say more on detective. Its cold out there likes. Aye so detective comics is a wee bit of an under dog. Going a wee bit un-noticed in my neck of the woods. Two reasons for that. The first run of the reboot was a wee bit shite. I don't think many people will mind me saying that. I liked it. It was grungy and a tad mad. Good combo if you ask me. It just wasny all that amazing. The second thing that keeps this detective run down is batman. No not the character. That be mad actually. Batman ruins book about batman. There's a head line for bizzaro world likes. Naw I'm talking about the main batman book. Its un godly good. Like just a damn proper read. If your going to buy one bat book your going to buy batman. And that's fine. You shidny have to buy a thousand different books for the same character even if that characters as legendary as batman is. This detective run though. Its damn decent. I Definitely say its worth a read. Aye its not as good as batman and it may be a tad silly in places for some peoples tastes but I do quite like it. Its got a good vibe going for it. The story a bit gritty but off putting and the arts detailed but actiony. Aye. What I'm trying to say is. Gee this run a go. You probably most likely wont regret it. Blame ghost if you do. Not me. Definitely don't blame me.
