Comic book quickies

SAGA #12

written by brian k. vaughan art by fiona staples

The single best episode of meet the author ever ! Well maybe except for that one issue of animal man with big grant Morrison. Saga there. Just cutting about. Being amazing again. No surprise really. It is saga we're dealing with after all. Its strange. Its only been in my life a short while. But its hard to Imagen comics without saga any more. That's something for me to think about. I here this issue generated some amount of controversy. Don't really see it my self. Last issue was amazingly more explicit. Oh wells. Maybe that's a part of the controversy. Apart from that it just a very bantery issue, like cover to cover banter. Little bit of fighting here and there. But mostly its banter. In lesser hands that could have led to disaster. But of course that's not the case here. There's like a squirely medic / mouse thing and a Cyclops man. Its pretty rad. Has to be said. Damn you saga ! Your just so damn good I don't really have much to talk about. I know I say that about a lot of stuff. But saga likes. It really is that way. Course you already know that. You read comics therefore you read saga. Or do I have that wrong. I have herd rumours of possible spots of resistance. Hmm. Ill have to send the storm troopers to investigate. Stay tuned.

THE STANDARD #2

written by john lees art by john rector

Now this was cracking. I liked this second issue a lot more than the first one. Maybe that's because we got to hang about with auld man standard. Now I liked kid standard. Booster gold that he was, its just that I was sold on auld man super hero cutting about and with this issue we finally got that. And I have to say. It was done pretty well. Like it could have been hateful. It could have been aww auld people are terrible and made fun of them. But no. auld man standard is quite the lad and he's handled with dignity. The wee authors note at the back of the first issue talked about not wanting to be grim dark and that shines threw more here. Auld man standard could have easily been a joke. About how ageing destroys you. About the loss of innocence and all that pish. Amazingly though. Genuinely not the case here. That really makes me happy loikes. Its nice to see ladness spreading from my home land. The art seemed to be upgraded just a little bit. Maybe its just me. But it seemed a little a sharper. Less amiutureishh. Maybe that's a little pretentious for me to say. But this time the art did seam to be improving. I like it ok ! If you fancy a wee bit of indi superhero action the standards your man !

AGE OF ULTRON BOOK #5

written by brian michael bendis art by bryan hitch

So guys. Like still. How can I say this again. Yeah. Still not buying this whole ultron thing. I here terrible terrible things said about it almost non stop. I can totes get that. Its been fairly horrible so far if we're being honest. I really should be one of the people complaining about it. Here's the thing though. It just dosent bother me all that much. Like if this was the actual marvel universe id be actually fuming. But for now its just a wee alternate time line. Now yes. What with the timey whimey developments of this issue and the spoilery covers for upcoming issues there is room for this wee abomination to become very very real. And when that day comes you can be damn sure ill be out there on the streets screaming and weeping. But right now. No matter how much it should offend me. It just dosent. So bendis right. The actual fuck were you on when you were wrighting this. Like I can get going for grim dark ware everyone dies like punks. But come on son. This isn't even good grim dark. I might go as far to call it sloppy. It feels like a bad tv show. Made for the syfy channel. Yes there's spectical but it also feels somewhat cheap. And FUCKING everyone's out of character to some degree. Something that once again would have me rageing. But dosent. So once again. Lets wait and see. Easy dose it. Easy dose it. The marvel lads MIGHT be going some ware with this event. But if they don't. Holy fuck why ?

UNCANNY AVENGERS #6

written by remender art by daniel acuna

BOOOOM oh mah god oh mah gawd ho my actual cracker eating god. This was BLOODY fantastic. Cover to cover a joy to read. A real sight to behold. So its a flash back issue to the days of kid thor. Well young man thor. Lad thor lets call him. I here the main thor book has this time of thors life pretty well down but it was nice to see it presented so AMZINGLY in a avengers book. So lad thors cutting about with the Vikings and that while kang stirs up shite with apocalypse. Its. Magical. Again I cried a little. Partly because I wasn't expecting it to be all that amazing and partly because it was just that god damn solid. Maybe its just a novelty to me. But apocalypse just cutting about in a tavern and beating the shite out of thor is perfect. It probably be my moment of the week. That is if fantastic four wasn't out. More on that bellow. Thor also pulls off one of my all time favourite tropes. The big damn heroes moment. FOR LONDON. The gods have not abandoned us indeed. It just has fucking everything ! I really can say more than that. Also. The art. gorgeous man. I feel like the artist did some issues for bendis late in his avengers run. I was having some flash backs to pink hulk super adaptoid norman ozborn. Not necessarily a bad thing Ill have you know.

FANTASTIC FOUR #6

written by matt fraction art by mark bagley

Let us for a moment consider the extreme ladness of ben grimm. The thing. If I was pushed for my top 5 marvel characters. The thing would defiantly be up there. The sheer absolute ladness he generates is the stuff of legend. The saga of ben grimm should be taught to our young. From their earliest days they should be taught about his amazing adventures and his continuing ladness in the face of the universes dickery. Yes he's a monster. A hulking rock man. So fucking what. At no point dose he let that stop him from cutting about. Making scooby doo sandwiches. Watching tv. And pulling off kamina level fuck destiny shite like he dose this issue. Gotta give even more credit to fraction here. You got me you hipster bastard. You really did. All issue the thing is set up for a fall. The recap blurb reminds us he's been having anger problems. Hulking out into lava thing. We open on him fumbling with asprens. But he holds it together. By the end though. Dose he fall ? DOSE HE FUCK. The four are cutting about the big bang. See a guy strapped to a rock floating threw pre existence. The debate helping the guy. Sues aww like what do you think about this ben. But ben. Bens already outside. Gonna help the guy. WE'R THE FANTASTIC FOUR SUZIE PANTS. WE DONT JUST LET NOBODY DIE. THESE ARE THINGS BEN GRIMM SAYS. I really canny stress it enough. This may be my top moment of there year so far. And if you've been following me recently you'll know I think very highly about the quality of current comics. So that's gotta tell you something about this amazing scean. So ayes. You goota read this book !

BATMAN #19

written by scott snyder art by greg capullo

Well likes. This was batman. Being batman. I canny man. I just canny likes. Argue with that I mean. Those of you with long memorys will ken I really hate when batman isn't being batman. Now yes I do go on about the bat god a lot. Maybe too much. That's fine. I can deal with that. But stuff like the first volume of hush. Really gets my goat. When I read a batman comic I want to see batman being batman. Doing batmanny things. Like cutting about gotham. Paunching folk. Driving about in the batmobile. We don't get a hole lot of that here but It gets across that vibe quite nicely. Its bizarrely fresh. Sharp and crisp. That or iv gone quite mad. Its better than last issue. That's possibly what I'm trying to get at here. Ware last issue felt terribly fan ficy this one felt properly batman. There's a bizarre cold open. Yes. Probably clay face related. Or a subversion of clay face related shite. So really its all good in the hood. Or should I say cowl ! Ho ho ho ! I'll be quite now.

SUPERBOY #19

written by scott lobdell art by r.b silva

See this. This might be they single most un laddshishly hateful comic iv ever read. Now. That may be amazingly harsh. And I'm sorry for that. But deer e o me. What the hell guys. Just like. Its hard for me to describe to you. I wouldn't call it conventionally hateful. Its not like anything remarkably annoying happens. Its just all kinds of blughrg. Likes. Likes. likes. I'm trying to focus on the content of the actual issue right now. But I cant. MY MIND WONT LET ME. It dosent want me to remember any of it. Now don't get me wrong. It wasn't bad bad. Just dark agey in its plot. So much irrelevant shit happens. So many justification's and motivations that you meant to take on board but your like. Naw. Fuck that son. So at some point in the future the meta humans go to war with normal humans. Just naw. I'm not having that. That's cunty writing. That's something a writer from the mid 2000s would come up with. Superman wouldn't allow that. And if he's dead then his descendants wouldn't allow that. LADNESS itself wouldn't allow that to happen. So yeah. Don't go out of your way to read this comic because iv made it out to be terribly bad. Its not actually aw that. Its just weirdly offensive to my sensibility's. Sometimes I wonder if I should mellow out more when reading suprerboy. I'm not saying I should turn my brain off. Just look at it from a different angle. Up there I complained about it being dark agey. I like they 90s loikes. From time to time I like 90s comics. Maybe that's what there shooting for with superboy. I dunno man. Sometimes I just don't understand this crazy mixed up world any more.

Comic book quickies 13.2.13

God damn. Time likes. It just wont stop. Well another week. Time for more comics. Aw right week. Not too packed but the books that were out were of nifty quality.

BATMAN #17

written by scott snyder art by greg capullo

Things are going to get fairly controversial here quite soon. I'm sorry for this in advance. Now I think this last issue of the death in the family arc was a massive let down. After reading it I lost a wee bit of my faith in humanity. As a species we may have lost a good ten or so years because of this issue. I really, really thought we were past this at this point. I thought we were better than this. Its a damn shame likes. This issue in my opinion is the first dud issue of synders run. Well aye the annual had a similar problem in shiteness to be fair. Now put your torches and pitch forks down. Most of the issue was out right cracking. Proper batman being batmanny stuff. Lot a great moments and some fabulous joker banter. The image of bats ayes being broken and STEAMING will probably stay with me for some time. Like pretty much everything the problem lies with the ending. Its amazingly unnecessary. Hatefully unnecessary. Just goona out right spoil it here. Run for the hills if you don't want to here. Basically the bat family no longer trust bruce. FUCK THAT. That's something that would have flew twenty to twenty five years ago. But holly fuck not today. The youth of today will read this comic and be inspired by it. They will think that's the way to write comics. You can see why I think this will set the world back. Batman is a god ok. He's not a cunt. Well he kind of is but not in a bad way The prep time batman may be nothing but an internet joke but that's what batman IS in our harts. He's an amalgamation of all the batmen we've ever watched or read. He's spent the last seventy years becoming a god and while this batman may young that's no excuse for failure like this. This whole arc was about the joker being the voice of people that think batmans better on his own being a grim and gritty bastard. Now I may be horribly wrong here but I'm pretty sure that's meant to be taken as an insult. Batman has a team that he kicks about with. Its a whole part of his history. Gona just deal with it. By making the bat family untrusting in bruce just makes them horribly unlikeible. Its a huge miss step if you ask me. Your basically saying the jokers right and those that believe his view that bats is better off alone is right. Dose snyder actually believe that ? I don't want to believe that. Now aye this is just comics. Nothing really matters on the actual story level. Things will eventually be fine. But like I say I worry for this issues effect on comics to follow and its influence on other writers. Synders batman run is beloved and a lot of people are sure to read it. I thought we were nearing a new era. A new age of comics. A neo modern age. Stuff like slotts run on spider-man and almost all of snyders batman pointed to more ladness in comics. Probably shouldn't jump to conclusions though. Ill see how this disappointing plot line turns out. Its very likely I could be calling it genius by next month.

FANTASTIC FOUR # 4

written by matt fraction art by marck bagley

Sue storm is a terrible human being. We all get that right ? She's just awful. I'm not even sure what it is I dislike about her. She's just so deeply not nice. Its maddening. It may be because her sole charter trait is being a mother. Now being a mother that's also a super hero. That's fairly nifty. Shame she dosent carry it off well. Now being a mother in fiction means that she's totes rocking the trope of a mother will commit genocide to save her children. Now aye. That might be a very true fact of life but come on people ! Lets get past that ok ? Now aye. I don't have any specific examples to throw at sue. But for fock sake guys. That's like basically her. Also I'm pretty sure she slept with namor. I bring this up because this whole issue was about how awesome she is. Now iv read this issue. That's why I'm reviewing it right here. Why is she so awesome ? Read the whole issue. No actual clue. Basically she hot. I think that's what the issue was getting at. Now that I actually think about it. Maybe that's the joke. Maybe everybody's aware of how amazingly un likeable she is and this issues shilling of her was all in jest. Lets hope likes. Reed richards ain't no lad either. He pissies all over the prime directive in quite a spectacular way to declare his un dieing love for sue. If it wasn't messing with the whole culture of a alien race I could totes get behind it. Basically thank fuck the things on the team. His massive ladness keeps them readable.

THE STANDARD # 1

written by john lees art by jonathan rector

Purtty nifty wee indi super hero book. First issue was a little rough but I'm willing to see ware it go's. There's a fair bit o gorn and cynicism in here but its tempered by old fashioned hope. Id say its too early to tell which way it will go but the mission statement by the author at the back gives me hope. I quite like it when the writer of a book gives a wee word about what's going to be happening at the back of the first issue. I spose it just there because that cant have a letters page. Still nifty as fuck to me though. The plots really just ok. There's two heroes called the standard. One who kicked about the golden/ sliver age and the second standard is the firsts side kick whos taken up the mantle. The second standards basically booster gold. A celebrity super. Nothing rang wea that. Nothing too ground braking either. Now I really cant judge ware the book will go. Its looking like it will take shots at grim and gritty tropes but it dose have them same tropes as part of the plot. So like I said. Its hard to tell ware this series will go just on the strength of this first issue.

AMERICAS GOT POWERS # 5

written by jonathan ross art by bryan hitch

So still amazingly were now five whole issues in and the hero of the book is STILL a lad. Yes the world and almost every other character in it is AMAZINGLY EVIL. But the hero is STIL a hero. Maybe its just me that's hung up on this. But in this day and age the very fact that the hero isn't even a little bit of a cunt is something to marvel at. In my book at least. a character that previously seemed like a bit of a lad dose seem to go a wee bit power crazy but that is done by having david tenant turn into giant man. Don't know how to feel about that. This books main problem is its loss of momentum. Its a real shame likes. It started so god damn well with that double first issue. Kinda goat board of the whole hunger games / running man plot. Its aww right likes. Its just no tournament arc though. To be fair this issue is more world plot stuff happening. The evil American military decides to just bomb all the super powered teens. Because evil.

KATANA # 1

written by ann nocenti art by alex sanchez

So I gave kantana go this week. Cant say I regret it. In the last year or so I decided to give more comics a try. Number ones that is. Within reason though. I'm no goona actively depress my self by seaking out comics by the dark creators to read. So I picked up this issue and gave it a quick flick threw. Art wasny bad so I gave it a chance. It was a fairly good read. Some parts were slightly hard to follow but that may just be my ignorance of the charter coming into play. What's here though is good action and by the end of it I didn't dislike katana. Id call that a win like. So this book is part of a new line spotlighting the new justices laeuge. It will be interesting to see what that books all about because right now I'm not entirely sure why its happening. Its a weird back and forth comics have. They have a big super hero team gain new obscure members that go on to have interesting story's but eventually they have to put the iconic team together. Its a whole ting.

SUPERBOY #17

written by tom deefalco art by r.b silva

So hell on earth is still going on. Not really complaining just it feels like there's been a hundred issues of it all ready. Cant really complain about that either as iv been missing the superman issues as I only get super girl and super boy. Its not all that bad. Probably unnecessary. Its totes one of them cross overs ware you need to buy comics you don't usely buy. He'll is a bit of a weak villain. He's curb stomping everyone. Not sure how or why. And bloody super girls like actually in love with him. Maybe. Sucks if she actually is. Could turn out well if she's not. A few nifty things have come out of the cross over though. Like batmans hella pimpy fur snow gear and super boy having to ware superman's suite for plot reasons leading supes to cutting about in his action comics causal jeans and S logo t shirt. Iv most likely said before but even though supermans the last hero you should give a causal costume too this one bizarrely works on him. Not actually sure what happened this issue. Aye the plot advanced but there was this silver surfer bug dude and galactus looking guy. I'm pretty sure drugs were involved with the writing of this issue. That or it was intentionally written to appear like it was written on drugs. I liked it !

Comics the now

Hullos !

Comics right now are pretty damn good. I cant really remember a poor week for ages now. I guess there's a few reasons for that. I'm buying a wee bit more books now. Long gone are the days of only picking up amazing spider man. Damn they were good times. Now marvel has caught up with DC and have started putting out there new stuff. I'm a bit bummed that there renumbered books haven't had a synchronised launch but that might have been a bit too much like the new 52.

Aye I think ill still call it the new 52 on here despite it being auld and not exactly the same 52 books. Its been damn good though. Kept up the pace pretty well. Batman's been there top book since day one and I'm still loving it. The book got off to a rocking start and even though I had my doubts when it looked like that bat god would break snyder pulled it back in style with the silliness of the end of the court of owls and this new bat perfecting his YOUR INSANE paunch. Right now bats is onto another mega arc with the joker back in town starting shite. Its damn good. Ideally id just want an instant bat god win. But for the sake of drama its damn gid.

Action comics its fucking insanely brilliant. Like fucking insanely god like in its awesomeness. At times. Sadly its has its ups and downs. Now the downs arny really downy downs there just not highs. Which is a shame. Now that last issue just gone. #13. hoo lee fuck. Had me crying manly tears. Superman rides to the rescue of a mission to mars base and its apparently British crew. Super man at his supermanyist. A fusion of superman , Dr who and gurren lagann ! At times it felt like Morrison was writing it just foe me it was that spot on to what I like to read about.

Aquaman by the way. He's a bit of a lad. Well no, not really. He's just the standard man on a mission character the big goff likes to write. The aquaman book though. Now there's a hell of a lad. Like all comics its had its ups and downs. Its opening arc had some gosh darn fantastic moments. Establishing everyone in the DC verse thinks of aquaman the way the real world thinks of him. Id have personally like to see him just being the brave and the bold version but the loser hero was an alright way to go. The recent aquamans 90s anti hero team arc could have went badly but the team showed there true colours as not an anti hero team at all but a RANGER time. That last arc had a hell of a Saturday morning cartoon vibe. Its geof johns I know that's his thing but god damn it was glorious. It was the atlantian millennium items that did it for me.

The guardians of the galaxy continue to be moustache twirllingly evil. Its damn entertaining to watch. Sinestro and hal were finally getting down to the serious business of being buddy cops in space but they got sucked into a death hole. So theirs a new green lantern kicking about earth. Surprisingly cool dude. The preview images made him look quite the dick. Running about with a gun. We dinny need another John Stuart. Well no another current comics John Stuart. A justice league cartoon John Stuart would be joyously welcomed with open arms at this point. Aye so the new guy. What's his name. Cool dude. Canny fly yet. Drives construct cars. As fast as the flash. Like I said. Surprisingly cool dude.

Now marvel. Marvels fucking insane. Like proper loopy. Not entirely sure why. But they are. Big news was amazing spider mans getting a renumbering after issue 700. that's a huge kick in the balls. I feel like they renumbered it before and it didn't take. So we're all probs taking bets as to when it resets. Bigger news was that it might not be peter under the mask after 700. now that's probably the biggest ball kicker of the year. Maybe that hole Disney star wars thing. Its defiantly a big deal. Now normally with this kind of thing you'd just write it off as a desperate attempt to build up hype for a book. But here's the thing. Marvels fucking insane. We're at the point ware they could actually kill off peter god damn Parker. In the year of his 50th anniversary and a recent film release. Now I'm not all that up to date on it but hopefully its just dan slott the eternal lad taking the piss. But if not. Calm the fuck doon marvel.

Now despite there insanity they do make quite fine comics. Avengers vs X men was pretty well done in my opinion. Not to everyone's taste I expect. It really was a lot of fighting. But I have to stress. Damn good fighting. Cyclops. Cyclops is an utter bastard. But a loveable bastard. He's just so amazingly evil. That's what I took away from A vs X. I know that's not always been his character but its some thing for him to do at any rate. Marvels moved on from civil war a bit. Now there bastard of the event is at least employable evil unlike Tony stark was back then.

I picked up Two X books in the aftermath of the event. Not really an X fan but I thought id give them a chance. Uncanny avengers just blew me away. Two things did it for me. The the just plain awesome casual vibe. And the red skull stealing prof X's brain. HOW AMAZINGLY RED SKULL IS THAT. Aye prof X has been dead for two hole seconds and BOOM red skulls in there. No hesitation. Proper old school villainy. Now this Wednesday just past big brain Michel bendis swaggered into the room and slammed all new x men on the table. It was actually pretty good. Staggeringly. Now the full impact of the first issue was spoiled by previews but the idea of getting young Scott summers to come to the future and talk some sense into himself is a damn amazing idea. Nice one bendis.

The fantastic four books missed a trick. They ended there current run going to save Dr doom from a universe he crated that turned against him. Aye naw pal. That might be actually what would happen given the circumstances and dooms actual character. But that's not what would happen to the lad doom. Lad doom would never need the fantastic four to rescue him. Lad doom wouldn't need rescuing at all. Lad doom would be off conquering universe's duel wielding infinity gauntlet like the ultra lad he is. Now to the books credit despite this fall at the very last hurdle the issue did have some fine moments and quite doomy lines form the lad himself. Sad that the run over really. The new runs just kicked off. Bit to early to say how its going but baglys art it is grately appreciated.

I decided to pick up iron man. Juuuuuuust as the book was gearing up for its final arc. Gotta say I like what I read. Very very metal gear solid ish. Sad I missed out on the hole run now. Might have to go pick up the trades at some point. Actually I don't think iv bought new trades outside of xmas presents since I started buying comics by the monthly format two or three years ago. Damn likes. That's something for me to think about. Picked up the new number one with him in his new black and yellow armour. Only one issue down of course but so far its not as good as fractions run. Not bad though. A few nice bits here and there. Gotta wait and see ware it go's

Lastly iv been venturing into deeper comic waters. The darker depths of indi comics. Well indi-er than the two big company's. Saga is a damn fine piece of comicbooking. Its the new one by that there y the last man guy. Now a fair bit of it is quite out there for my taste but that's offset buy its incredible comic booky-ness. Its about a couple and the new born child escaping from two factions at war with each other. IN SPACE. Grant Morrison's new book, happy is hopefully a piss take of mark millers indi books in particular and mark miller in general. It is defiantly a piss take but hopefully that will be made official eventually. Happy is a charming Christmas tale of a scumy scum bag and his tiny wise cracking flying purple unicorn buddy. It be horribly depressing if its not a piss take. So you can see why I want it to be one. Has to be. Hopefully

Also I'm back !

comic book quickies 28/5/12

THE FLASH #9

Written by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato art by Francis Manapul

Now this was a hole lot of fun. Its the flash vs gorilla grod. Nice classic super hero action but at the same time it drives the plot forward quite a bit. I quite like that the writers are trying to tie the speed force into other aspects of DC continuity. Here they have gorilla city being built around the “light” which is later shown to be the speed force. Well maybe that's always been the case. Research ? What's that ! Also this issue Barry comes down with a case of explosive amnesia. He dose get over it fairly quickly but I personally found the resolution satisfying plus it had the classic sliver age vibe the comic was going for. We find out that the flash's true destiny is to run. He's literally told that he keeps the planet safe just by running. FUCK YES.

AQUAMAN #9

written by Geoff Johns art by Ivan Reis

Silly Aquaman you don't belong in the rainforest. This book is still trundling along nicely. Yeah its mainly the art that's keeping it worth reading but the story's not half bad either. Also the fact that Aquaman has his own book again is crazy cool. This issue we get a little more insight into Aquamans team. This time focusing on the prisoner. Sadly the issue wasn't spent in a welsh village with psychedelic spy action. Its nice to see that every time a new character is introduced they turn out to be a better Aquaman than Aquaman is. By that I mean Aquaman is the generic guy of the aqua family. He's got super strength, can breath underwater and can talk to fish. Cools. Have you seen the shite mera can do ? Crazy tidal wave telekinesis type shite. Not that that's a bad thing. I do like generic red ranger Aquaman but is definitely a thing that exists. Spoilers guys but at the end of the issue were told that in a fit of rage after black manta attacked his dad Aquaman killed black mantas dad. Eh naw pal. I know your trying to make Aquaman all gritty and cool but that's too far geoff. I'm willing to see ware this is going but I really don't know what to think if this is played straight.

GREEN LANTERN NEW GUARDIANS #9

written by Brain Tony Bedard art by Tyler Kirkham

Hmmm. Now this is tricky. I quite liked this issue. In fact it was pretty fun. So that's really cool coming from a book that's been pretty disappointing for most of its run. This issue we finally, FINALLY get the fight between the blue lanterns and the reach that was promised WAY back at the start of the current blue beetle run. And its a lot of fun. I totally forgot that the beetle suits could change form. It feels like an age since that gimmick was used in the actual blue beetle comic. I'm not really sure why but blue lanterns are just plain awesome. Dunno why. There are sort of weak and don't do all that many plot relevant things as well as being space hippies. But dammit there cool. Maybe its the combination of my favourite colour and the emotion hope. So yes the month brought a nice step up in quality that I hope continues.

TEEN TITANS #9

written by Scott Lobdell art by IG Guara

Here's the thing. I missed part three of the culling. It happened in this months issue of legion lost. Now I would have got it had I known that the culling was going to be one of those events ware you had to buy multiple books. But I didn't know soon enough so I missed it. Here's the thing though. I don't feel like I missed anything. Sure things must have happened in that legion lost issue but I'm guessing nothing major. To be fair I have quite enjoyed this wee event. Nothing really blew my mind but nothing really offended me ether and I cant accuse it of taking too long or losing it's momentum. That seams to be a thing about event comics this year. Even marvels avengers vs x-men is running every other week.

FANTASTIC FOUR #606

written by Jonathan Hickman art by Ron Garney

Damn there's no slowing down these fantastic four books likes. Last week we had an awesome if a little heavy point one issue and now just a week later we have this crazy fun fantastic voyage one and done standalone issue. That's all this issue really is, a fantastic voyage to the centre of the fantastic fours post man willie lumkins brain to kill some cancer dead. Its a simple story but its done just so damn well. Every point plot and trope you'd expect to see is here and played straight. Gloriously straight. Its one of those issues ware the fantastic four do very fantastic four-ish things and the fantastic voyage is one of those story's you or at least I Imagen happen to the four all the god damn time.

BATMAN INC SEASON 2 #1

written by grant Morrison art by Chris Burnham

This was AMAZING. I knew it would be and it more than lived up to my expectations. Which is rare. Most times I over hype things in my head. This did have a tough act to follow. The main bat book has been god damn spectacular for nine solid months. Never doubt Morrison though. This was crazy awesome. Its got batman and robin being batman and robin. Fighting crime. HELLS TO THE GOD DAMN BELLS. Plot wise leviathan is starting to take control of Gotham and has put a bounty out on the head of Damien Wayne. That's the basic plot summery but that in no way dose it justice. Every page is overflowing with STUFF happening. Both visually and with glorious dialogue. So I'm really looking forward to the months to come as we now have two dam gid bat books with both this and synders batman. Yeah I here good things about batman and robin but meh I dropped that back at issue one. I gave it a chance and it was too un fun. So Morrison's bat god is back ! Canny wait for more.

comic book quickies 15/4/12

A surprisingly hefty week.

GREEN LANTERN #8

written by Geoff Johns art by Doug Mahnke

Well this was a pretty crazy awesome little issue ware not all that much happened. Crazy awesome in that both Hal and sinestro do some insanely cool things. Well Hal dose. Sinestros still stuck in psychopath mode when he should have mellowed out by now. The big goff man's still writing space Hitler as space Hitler. Which I guess is the right way to write a villain who's now a good guy against his will. Well it would be the right way to write him if sinestro had joined the justice league or some team like that but the problem is sinestro and hal are buddy cops and it's no fun to read when your sitting around waiting for space Hitler to mellow out. Now I don't want him to be laid back, no he is the bad cop of the the two but is it too much to ask for sinestro to roll around in a Hawaiian shirt ? Yeah so not that much happened this issue. Well nothing big. Well maybe something huge did happen and I just don't consider it that huge an event. I guess I'm just waiting for the guardians to make there move. Its been like eight months now. Hopefully shit will get real pretty soon.

SUPERBOY #8

written by Scott Lobdell art R.B Silva

So uh. Yeah. What the. What the hell happened last issue in superboy ? I genuinely don't remember. I started reading this issue and was like did I miss an issue ? I know superboy and the teen titans have a thing going on with one issue of one running into the next but I was a bit fuzzy on what happened last issue over in titans as well. Then I was like oh wells and just read the issue. It was pretty gid. Superboy fights this dude called grunge who's basically Kevin E Levin from ben 10 if he were a 90s anti hero. Which is cools. There seems to be a plot line devolving which sound like a super hero version of the the hunger games. That could be all right. My first read through of this issue I wasny digging it but now that I look back on it I'm quite likening it. Its mainly the 90s-nes of grunge that's doing it for me though it is nice to see that the book is at least trying to go some ware with its plot.

FRANKENSTEIN AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E #8

written by Jeff Lemire art by Alberto Ponticelli

Hmmm. Well this issue wasn't the barnstormer that I thought it was going to be. Now it was still pretty gid. It just wasn't as gid as I had hoped. See Frankenstein and his wife had to track down there evil son. And they did. And to me the son of Frankenstein was a wee bit of a let down. I'm not even sure what I was expecting but his design was just so bland. And weak. Now I can understand they way the issue went. It was more of an emotional story for fanky and his wife and there son was just there to put them though some charter development. I get that. I just felt a wee bit let down is all.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE #2

written by Brian Michael Bendis art by Mark Bagley

So yeah I'm reading another avengers book written by bendis. Yeah I'm mentally ill. Its really not that bad but why the actual fuck is is bendis still writing the other avengers book ? You would have thought he would have just moved over to this book. But nope. Now this book is just a cash grab for the upcoming avengers film. I'm fine with that. It's what marvel always dose when there next film rolls around. Its kind of there thing. On the bright side it is Bendis and Bagley together again. Buddy cops that they are. The book dose suffer quite heavily from not being ultimate spider-man though. By that I mean Bagley has a noticeably different art style when he's not drawing ultimate spidey. The issue itself wasny too bad with the fights being well done and the plot getting a bit silly in places. Hawkeye dose refer to using the ultimate nullifier as the ultimate terrorist attack. Americans like.

FANTASTIC FOUR #605

written by Jonathan Hickman art by Ron Garney

Oh man. This comic. Manly tears. Manly tears for Ben Grim garp.

AMERICA'S GOT POWERS #1

written by Jonathan Ross art by Bryan Hitch

Let me just say this at the start here. This was really gid. Like really gid. It was just so .... battle city. Well I guess it was so hunger games meets running man. But yeah. Its a damn hefty first issue that's hella bang for your buck what with it basically being two issues slammed together. Plot wise it is just American idol with super hero's. Interestingly the book is filled with bastards like most mark miller-ish books ( and its very mark miller-ish) but the main hero isn't a bastard. Yeah he's not superman or captain America but so far he's shown to be not a bastard. Which to me was HUGE surprise. Now I'm sure he'll be corrupted as the story progresses but for now its nice to see he's not a bastard. I'm interested to see ware this book go's as I get the feeling these type of story's don't end happily. Oh and David tennant puts in a appearance Which is nice.

comic book quickies 16/3/12

GREEN LANTERN #7

written by Geoff Johns art by Mike Choi

Sinestro trys to rope Hal Jordan into investigating just how INSANE the guardians have become but both he and Hal are kidnapped by the indigo tribe. See I genuinely thought this issue was pretty meh. Mainly because I felt we had done this exact same thing like six months ago. Sinestro forces Hal to be a green lantern again. Yeah the circumstances were a wee bit different last time but not by much. Hal not wanting to be a green lantern. Yeah that's just made of guhh. I get what the big goff lad is doing. Painting Jordan's use of the ring like a slight addiction. And him wanting a normal life on earth is a step forward for him. BUT THATS SOOOOOO BOARING. And of course it will never stick. The guardians are balls out insane but at this point am sure you all know that. At one point in this issue there all for killing one of there own lanterns because he might ask too many questions. Yeah. I was hoping for some buddy cop character development for auld sinestro but if I'm honest I feel he regressed a wee bit back into space Hitler mode. That was really the main thing that spoiled my enjoyment of the issue. I think Its fair to that we're all just waiting for sinestro to properly mellow out so we can have full on buddy cop action at last.

SUPERBOY #7

written by Scott Lobdell art R.B Silva

Superboy returns home to the facility ware he was created to bring the beat down to n.o.w.h.e.r.e. Yeah so superboy's pretty gid. Like iv said in the past its an oddly bipolar book. Both the plot itself and superboy as a character. One issue he's working for n.o.w.h.e.r.e and the next he's not. Though now that I think about it most issues he is working for them. Well it at least feels like he's flip flopping between working for the man and running away to freedom. He dies this week so aw well no worry's. He dose get better though. Then he dies again. But then he gets better again. So alls well with the world. Superboys not that mind blowing of a read but its still got plenty of action and that's all a really ask of a comic.

FRANKENSTEIN AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E #7

written by Jeff Lemire art by Alberto Ponticelli

Frankenstein and the creature commandos fight against the putties from power rangers and the prototype creature commandos. YEAH. So the the non sentient vaguely slave work force of shade the humanids rise up and are basically the putties from power rangers. I like this. What I don't like is shades response to this new life from that being they don't negotiate with terrorists. Meaning the just slaughter them without a second thought. Right guy I get that they tried to take over your base and that's a pretty uncool thing to do but I don't remember the humanids saying they were gonna take over the world or even if they killed anyone. Like at all. Well they probably did. But still. We all love to see putties getting beat down but shades response just seemed overly harsh and kind of set a weird tone for the issue. Like a wasn't rooting for franky and the lads. Mainly because they were being so un lad-ish.

FANTASTIC FOUR #604

written by Jonathan Hickman art by Steve Epting

Its the epic conclusion to the current mad space god saga. And I felt a little let down by it if I tell the truth. Spoilers all that happens is future franklin and Valeria save the day. That's it. To me that's just very lame. Yeah it is cool to see future franklin wielding galactus like a pokemon trainer and yes its nice to see that the world could only be save because the fantastic four are a family and if they wernt then they'd be doomed like the rest of family less reeds from other alternate universes. Its just I think we'd have all rather liked Dr doom to be the guy that saved every one. I get that doom cant do everything and be every ware. Its just that I look at the mad space gods and I'm like yeah doom could take them. Sadly the books still going for the doom is dead thing. Well he's been to hell before and we all know how that worked out. This issue was $3.99. Naw marvel. Just naw. Really don't be that guy.

AVENGERS #24

written by Brain Michael Bendis art by Daniel Acuna

Norman Osborn has all the powers ever. Lets see how that plays out for him. Well its the end of this unfortunately at times utterly hateful and insane arc. I say unfortunately because iv quite liked most of it there's just a few wee bits that just kill me. Like properly kill me. So giving Osborn all the super powers. That's really hateful. Giving Osborn the super adaptoids powers ? That somehow makes it fun. I don't know what to say. It just works. It turns him into pink hulk. Yeah that's kind of awesome. The avengers beat Osborn by touching him. That's somehow crazy awesome to me. Spider man gets a line in this issue that actually redeems this entire arc for me. Bendis you beautiful troll. As much as I loved super adaptoid pink hulk Norman Osborn I cant help wondering why marvel just wont let him be the green goblin again. Yeah the corporate pimp look sorta works for him but lex luthor has that look down to a fine art.

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE #1

written by Brian Michael Bendis art by Mark Bagley

Well there's a fourth team of avengers now and I really don't know why. Well its to cash in on the upcoming film but as of issue one thieve not yet given an in universe reason for the new team. Knowing bendis we'll find out by the time our grand kids enter high school. There was super villain that thought the hulk was only a myth. I read that and my head exploded. I don't really have any words for that. For now I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. It is a new villain that I don't know anything about so its possible his back story involves living under a rock for most of his life. Its very pretty book and its always nice to see bendis and bagley together. Lads that they are.

comic book quickies 22/2/12

THE FLASH #6

Written by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato art by Francis Manapul

Captain colds got an upgrade and is out for flash's blood ! Who knew the lack of sleeves made you stronger ? They must have been weighted. Right so flash is gid. Now by that I mean that its well written and the art is always amazing. I think you get that by now its pretty much all I say about this book when it pops up here on quickies. But daaaaaaaaaam flash is gid. Its one of those comicy comics that I love so much. Like this issue the flash fights captain cold. AND ITS AWESOME. Its a welcome change as despite how fun the last five issues were I was getting a wee bit board with mob rule and there slight brown shooter-nes. But only a wee bit. The plot point of the speed force being too dangerous to use continues on from last issue and I sort of like the way its been done which is weird for me as I don't normally like these power limiting story lines but all that's happened is the flash has been given a speedometer. And that's kinda cool in my opinion and fits in well with the hole theme of you know speed. It wont last but its so far not been as fun draining as it could have been.

AQUAMAN #6

written by Geoff Johns art by Ivan Reis

Mera go's shopping. hilarity ensues. She brakes a dudes arm and almost kills another guy. Yeah they both deserved it but still. So yeah this was a spotlight issue focusing on Mera who's aquaman's wife. Actually I'm not sure about that is she his wife ? Like in the new 52 ? or was she even his wife back in the day during the last universe ? I could just check. I am on the internet just now. It would take like two seconds. It would preserve my reviewers integrity. Naahhhhh ill just keep writing and see ware that takes me. So Mera's kicking about town trying to buy dog food because aquaman has a dog now and I think we can all see just how awesome that is. The quest for dog food leads to her getting perved on by this pervy guy. Who's a pervert. The issues AMAZINGLY unsubtle about showing that. I mean that's the point but that dudes got baaaaalllls man. She then gets her self arrested for the arm breaking shenanigans so she can help out with a hostage situation. It dosent go that well. She takes most of the water out of the bad guys body with her water control powers showing that she's a better aquaman than aquaman is. The hostage was like the bad guys daughter and she dosent take too kindly to her fathers all most murder even though her father KILLED her mother. Yeah. Mera makes a friend by the end of the issue so alls well.

GREEN LANTERN NEW GUARDIANS #6

written by Brain Tony Bedard art by Tyler Kirkham

The lantern rangers fight a slightly Kirby space god of light. Ohhh new guardians why are you being that guy ? I don't want to drop you but your trying very hard to make me. Its not that your a bad comic. It's not like your like your emo brother the red lanterns book that did something that was both insanely dumb AND offensive to me that I had to drop it. No the problem is your just ever so slightly bland. Now I don't mind blandness that much its just your the wrong kind of bland for me. You also suffer quite heavily from the sickness of generic lantern art, so even your bland story's cant be saved by nice art. Your also not written by the big goff and sadly that means your filler. Now I don't want to be that guy that says just because a certain book isn't written by a certain big name writer that book is instantly filler but in the case of green lantern book its sadly true. The big goff man is there true daddy and if he's not writing them then there filler. This months issue was slightly more interesting than the rest as the teams fighting a villain who says he's actually the good guy. Aaaaaaaaaaannnnd he has a point most of the lantern rangers are bad guys its only really the blue and green lanterns that are true good guy's and even then kyles gone all renegade on the corps. Still I don't know what to feel about this book but maybe if it introduced a juice bar to the plot....

TEEN TITANS #6

written by Scott Lobdell art by Brett Booth

The titans after getting beat buy superboy sort of mooch around static shocks place while they try to cure kid flash of speed force instability. Firstly ill say this, static shock built a robot dinosaur. AWWW YEAH. As we all know there's not much that's more awesome than robot dinosaurs. Its literally only in the comic for one panel and it is slightly bayformers-ish but the comic is much better for its inclusion. Also it has tron lines. The comic itself was all right its like new guardians in that its not all that awesome or well written but unlike blandy Mc blandington up there teen titans dose have some gid banter here and there and most of the characters are entertainingly genre savvy. Mainly bunker. Who's gay by the way. Did the comic not mention that he was gay? Because he is indeed gay if you didn't know.

FANTASTIC FOUR# 603

written by Jonathan Hickman art by Barry Kitson

The fantastic four fight an epic battle against mad space gods in space and it is epic. I'm going to say this upfront, Dr Doom dose not appear in this issue yet again. I can only hope there building to something with him. If not shit will get real. However this comic was bloody amazing even without the god of awesome that is doom. The entire run of FF and the return of the main fantastic four book was completely worth it as build up for this issue. Firstly galactus is a proper pimp. He gets jumped by the four space gods and he's like ILL TAKE YOU ALL ON !!! which he dose killing one of them but then and I am going to put my reviewer cred on the line and say is most likely going to be one of the highlights of the entire year for me a least, THE FOUR GODS COMBINE. Omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was so amazingly awesome after all combining is the soul of man ! So galactus is like petty dead after getting hit was the combined gods energy and falling to earth so the fantastic four rig up a god killing gun back on earth that was nicely set up in previous issues. They mange to de combine the gods but its not enough to kill them out right and end the threat so all hope looks lost but future franklin and valeria show up for a nice cliffhanger. Now ill wait and see how that turns out but I feel they missed a trick there it should have been Doom that turned up and saved the say there. I can see it now he'd be all battle damaged and be all like “see you bastards ! Ahm no done with you yet !”

UTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #7

written by Brain Michael Bendis art by Chris Samnee

Miles learns how to be spider-man in a nice training arc issue. Well here we are seven issues in and miles realises he cant shoot webs. Um why ? I kinda get that he dosent know that peter built his own web shooters and he might have thought they were an organic deal that came with the other spider powers but shield gave him his new suit so shouldn't they have given him web shooters too ? I'm pretty sure they knew what they were and that miles would need a pair and its not like it be hard for them to build . Maybe its just nick fury taking the pish. The prowler in a feat of epic dickery kills the tinkerer this issue. See before he was stealth deadpool and a pretty cool guy. Now he's just a murderer. Way to drop the ball bendis. Still loving the current art and I cant complement it enough. So I wont.

comic book quickies 25/1/12

comic book quickies 25/1/12

It was one hell of a hefty week so lets get started !

JUSTICE LEAGUE #5
written by Geoff Johns art by Jim Lee

The justice league get owned by darkseid and batman go's a wee bit mad. Well well what do we have here, a third week book in week four. Disgusting DC. This utter failure is beyond anything seen before. Sure there's been delayed issues before but that was before the new 52 and its sacred four week cycle and for justice league the FLAGSHIP book of the new 52 to be the first to cross the line into lateness and to be the first cut soo deep into the four week cycle so beloved by all. It hurts. It cuts me deep inside. The delay is a wound that will never heel. Every time I see justice league on the shelf ill think of this dark day this DARKEST day when it was a week late. It hurts me to even type that. The book was soo late the UK editions are only two issues behind. How mental is that ! Heh that last part was a wee bit misleading but still true. Still pretty mental. The actual issue was pretty gid. Darksied is on earth now and the recently formed league get curb stomped by him in cinematic action movie style. Superman gets gutteted by the omega beams while flash out runs them and Hal Jordan gets his arm broken. Fun times. The batman go's a wee bit mad bit comes from a scene ware Bruce unmasks to Hal. It just sort of comes out of nowhere and Hal has no idea who Bruce Wayne is. That's just weird, I know its set five years ago but he should have at least herd of Bruce Wayne by that point. The unmasking has a point though, course it dose batman all ways has a plan as it it allows him to be picked up by darkseids mooks and taken back to their base. Weird plan but that's young bats for you, if it had been the bat god that we all know and love he'd just wander up to the battle field and all the mooks would spontaneously combust. Because he's batman. Yeah so gid comic.

THE FLASH #5
Written by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato art by Francis Manapul

The flash sort of ends the current story line in a way that makes it difficult for me to summarize it in a short and funny way. Yup flash is a damn gid comic. Its getting hard to talk about now as every issue is gid. Damn gid. That's really is a win for DC as my definition in my head of the flash comes from the 2000s justice league cartoon ware the flash was wally west and the comic relief of the team. So its kind of hard for me to root for the more serious business Barry Allan and I didn't grow up with DC comics continuity so its not a big deal foe me that Barry is alive and the flash again. Its not like Barry is clowning around here though its more just its a fun story that could have took grim dark turns but so far hasn't and I like that. The next story arc looks to be that the speed force is ripping apart time and space. I'm not sure how that will go over, to me it sound like that time in star trek the next generation when they found out that warp drives were ripping apart space. Did anything ever come from that ? I'm glad the books kind of taken a step back from Barry's mental speed force powers which kind of took away the fun part of the flash in that its fun to watch him just run fast. So for the the fifth time in five months, the art is still AMAZING. Really really really gid.

AQUAMAN #5
written by Geoff Johns art by Ivan Reis

Aquaman gets lost in the desert ! And his dog survives the issue ! Now I really enjoyed this issue it was everything I want an aquaman comic to be. This was really the first time since issue one ware I think the big goff got it spot on. Don't get me wrong I did like the cthulhu putties arc but at times I felt that it was a wee bit too dark and some times it dragged just a bit. It be awesome if the book just continued with the format of this issue that being sort of stand alone water themed monster of the week plot with an on going arc in the background you know like new who. Yeah so aquaman gets lost in the desert and hallucinates about his dad making fun of him for being aquaman. Yeah its one of those plots. And it bloody well works. Please big boss goff give us more comics like this. The art really shines. Heh get it ? Cause he's in a desert ! Damn I'm good.

GREEN LANTERN NEW GUARDIANS #5
written by Brain Tony Bedard art by Tyler Kirkham

The lantern rangers split up into buddy cop teams. That's right ! Buddy cop power rangers ! Mind explodes ! So the solar system machine ship thingy from last issue has actual planets in its metal orbs. Sadly there is no juice bar planet for the lantern rangers to visit. This issue reminds me of issue two or three of justice league international which ever one it was ware the league split up into pairs for some buddy cop odd couple action mainly because that's what exactly happens here. Maybe that's just the go to narrative device for writers that want to develop relationships in a team faster. That's what's happening here and over in the main avengers book as well but over there its more to make it easy for the avengers to get a whooping from hammer mooks. Here it kinda works , giving us back story for the lantern rangers like who they were before they joined there respective corps and why they do what they do. So that's pretty fun. The best banter is between green lantern kyle and orange lantern construct glomulus which is awesome and it kinda makes up for larfleeze not being on the team. Not an amazing comic but worth a read.

TEEN TITANS #5
written by Scott Lobdell art by Brett Booth

The titans get owned by superboy ! Yup superboy bipolar bastard that he is just willny pick a god damn side and stick to it. Its getting a bit much now. This issue is really just superboy beating down the titans. Now I like that it was all just one big fight but nothing all that awesome happens and it dosent give me all that much to talk about. So just a wee bit meh.

FANTASTIC FOUR #602
written by Jonathan Hickman art by Barry Kitson

The fantastic four wage 70s style space war above the earth ! Since issue five-ish this book has felt like 70s sci fi but I cant put my finger on a single core show that its most like. This space stuff makes it tastes like Blake 7. Now iv not seen that show in ages but that's the feeling I get from this books brow-ish colouring and I'm guessing deliberately cheesy at times character designs. This space war was in danger of getting stale but them BOOOOOOM!!! GALACTUS enters the battle and damn is he in full take nae shite I'm the devourer of worlds! Mode. Really all I need to enjoy a comic is for big G to turn up and actually do something. Too often galactus only gets a talkie cameo. Not here no sir. Here stuff explodes ! Lovely comic goodness !

FF #14
written by Jonathan Hickman art by Juan Bobillo

Doctor doom continues to be a total lad !I think we were all disappointed with dooms lack of appearances in the actual fantastic four book especially since that book was brought back for its 600 issue anniversary issues. Seriously how can you have an anniversary without doctor BLOODY doom ? Well fear not FF provides enough DOOM for all ! These few issues have been the best iv seen of old doom in ages, really he's not been this awesome since he fought his way out of hell. Yes that happened. This issue he stares down four mad gods. Like a pimp.

Doom. Do your worst....IT WILL NOT BE ENOUGH.

Now I like the team the books got going its what I thought the FF would be like from the start focusing more on the actual foundation doing things with SCIENCE rather than the fantastic four and what ever there plot was but at this point I could really do with this being dooms solo book. Its just mad enough to work !

The jolly comic book quickies 23/10/11

WHAT A WEEK ! My comic stack was damn hefty I can tell you that. The sheer weight of the thing and I don't really buy that much comics and there was so much to talk about this week a don't even have to keep talking up front here to pad it out with filler. I will keep writing though its fun and dosent really take that much effort as I don't really have to say anything as this all just waffle. Ohh wells that seams like enough. Read on !

JUSTICE LEAGUE #4
written by Geoff Johns art by Jim Lee

Cyborg becomes fully cyborg and the team finally comes all together just as Darkseid makes his big appearance. Have to say I'm likening this book more and more with each issue see I probably was too negative with issue one but that's mainly because I felt it was way to slow and didn't do its job as the first book of the new universe properly. My point is I probably kept that negativity with me going into the other issues which is a real shame as this is a book I should really like, its nothing but wall to wall action with at times really grate banter between the big hitters of DC. Despite the cover this issue is more to do with cyborg than Aquaman though they do the !what can Aquaman do shtick” and he summons giant sharks to eat Darkseid mooks, it was bad ass but I still find it funny that they had to be next to the harbour for it to work. Yeah so I'm happy thieve went with someone as big and powerful as Darkseid as the big bad but I feel like it slightly diminishes his godlyness form final crisis.

AVENGERS #20
written by Brain Michael Bendis art by Daniel Acuna

Norman Osborn upstages the avengers at there own press conference and then the new team splits up scooby doo style and faces off against h.a.m.m.e.r.s team of psycho rangers. There were no talking head panels in this comic and because of that I may have cryed tears of joy a wee bit. So Norman Osborne is out for revenge for being ousted as the head of the avengers after the siege of asgard. Yeah Norman Osborn THE GREEN GOBLIN was head of the avengers not too long ago. Its mainly because he got the kill shot on the skrull queen at the end of secret invasion but really its because the general public in the marvel universe are INSANE like properly mad. THEY WERE OK WITH OSBORN BEING IN CHARGE OF THE AVENGERS. This issue wasn't so bad like I said Osborne's got psycho ranger mook and there always fun and I'm digging the the painted looking but still cartoony art style.

BLUE BEETLE #4
written by Tony Bedard art by IG Guara

Jaime Reyes starts to adjust to daily life with the beetle scarab bonded to him and its all very ultimate spider man ish. How 90s is that cover buy the way I mean its the the most 90s ish thing out there like that alien robot could stand to have more pouches and all. I was saying it was very ultimate spider man ish that's mainly because its a about a teen super hero in high school and I know there's quite a lot of things out their like that but ultimate spider man really defines that sort of story and that view was reinforced this week as I read this issue back to back with this weeks ultimate spider man. Not saying its a bad thing though iv certainly got room in my life for two super hero comics set in high school. If you cant tell form all my waffleing not much happens this issue that really worth talking about its really just Jaime learning to deal with the scarab in in his day to day life sure there's a shocking last page cliffhanger but iv got a feeling it'll turn out fine.

BATMAN #4
written by Scott Snyder art by Greg Capullo

BATMAN DIDENT DIE ! So he continues to investigate the court of owls and tells Nightwing about the last time he went looking for them when he was just a kid. This book continues to deliver the goods there's not been one issue in the last four months that I haven't enjoyed. So far its been a perfect blend of action and mystery and at the same delving into the history of Gotham and the art is funking fantastic. I feel like iv said all these things in past quickies so it may not sound like much has been happening but the story hasn't stalled its just been entertainingly consistent. It really is the main batman book you should be reading right now.

SUPERGIRL #4
written by Michael Green art by Mike Johnson

Supergirl fights for her life on board a space station and things take a grim turn towards the end. This book started out so well but each issue going forward has been less and less mind busting and mecha filled. Not saying they were bad comics in anyway but the first issue just seemed so tailored to me that I just hoped it continue the way it started. This issue was still all action it just wasn't one long fight action. And like I said at the start it takes a turn for the grim towards the end ware the villain of the arc, a corporate space pimp gets both his arms and legs blown off when the space station explodes. Maybe its just me but I think that incident kinda brings the tone of the book down a bit.

BATMAN INC : LEVIATHAN STRIKES !
Written by Grant Morrison art by Chris Burnham and Cameron Stewart

Its the last two issues of batman inc in a slick sorta trade thingy. First batgirl investigates an evil finishing school in England for super villains daughters then its the “season finale” wham episode ware stuff gets damn weird and the true big bad is revealed. Maybe. Ahh the heft of this book ! Like I said its a bound sorta trade and its a damn slick presentation. So the first part about the evil finishing school is the fun breather story before stuff gets real in the next story but its well done and the arts damn fine. Lady gaga makes an appearance. Are we sure Morrison's off the drugs ? The second story's ware its at though. its is a wham episode all right, leviathan dose strike and agents of batman inc do die. I think. Its not very clear. And as you can see from the cover batman has bat robots. This pleases me. This issue is also set during old DC universe and for some reason I think this is oddly cool. It like a broken shard of the past sticking in the side of the rebootaverse. A damn fine comic well worth the wait in my humble opinion.

FANTASTIC FOUR #601
written by Jonathan Hickman art by Steve Epting

Johnny storm is back ! Yeah he was back last issue but he's more back this issue and by that I mean its just not spider man that knows he's back. Yes this issue we get the one panel shot of the team all back together and its those moments that really make death arcs for me. most deaths in comics are usely dumb and done for shock value and are always without fail met with cry's of it wont last and the person who died will be back within the year because as we all know no one ever stays dead in comics. With johnny we all called it , that he'd be back for fantastic four #600 but I have to say its been done really well so far. Last issue we saw how he survived and it was done pretty badass and now in this issue we get so see the family's reactions to his return and how his time in the negative zone have changed him. Now that I think of it the comic must have been damn gid if iv got this far in the quickie and not mentioned how DOCTOR DOOM isn't in this issue. Yeah I get that he's over in FF but damn marvel you'd think he'd at least get a little panel time explaining to the kree that he's been burned before or ripping up the ground under tanks like a pimp but oh wells it was a nice comic anyway.

ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDERMAN #5
written by Brian Michael Bendis at by Sara Pichelli and David Messina

Well friends its been a long road but we made it. Miles morales is officially spider man. Its been a long hard struggle and I know we've all lost good friends along the way but we made it and now we can get on with the rest our lives. So this was the inevitable issues ware we had to see nick fury be cool with miles being spider man. That needed to happen because if it didn't then we'd always be waiting for it to happen. Miles couldn't be kicking about without fury having his back not after the way peter died. So electro escapes for about the forth time and miles gets his first boss battle to prove himself to fury and I think electro is dead. Miles dosent kill him or anything but fury shoots him pretty dead looking and somehow I doubt he's in a take prisoners mood. Pretty fun issue with a good balance of comedy and action and like I said miles IS spider man now. That fact that it dident take so long that this is being written by me and not one of my descendant's is a god damn miracle.

Well that was a damn fine week and its was needed after what an odd downer last week turned out to be. Anyway this little bit down here's actually got a propose.
