Comic book quickies

Face front true believers because it’s Mad Hatter Mike’s turn to talk super hero and as I buy about three times as many pieces of sequential art based story telling as some crew members I could name, we could be here a while. Strap in.

Green Lantern 67:

This is the conclusion of the war of the green lanterns storyline, which has been a lot of fun, all things considered. Spoilers: the Green Lanterns win. Kyle Rayner gets the other coloured lanterns out of the book of the black by drawing that it happens in the book, which as the book is a book of prophesies makes it happen. Silly as all hell but pretty awesome, just like GL itself really. Also apparently Sinestro has redeemed himself despite the fact that he’s Space-Hitler. Stupid Guardians of the universe.

FF issue 6:

The FF does not appear in a single panel of this comic. What’s up with that?

Instead we get a story about the origin of Blackbolt and the inhumans? I don’t know. If you can keep up with the Fantastic Four’s continuity you’re a better geek than I.

Amazing Spiderman 665:

Ah now this is the good shit! I tell ya, no superhero is more developed and likable than Peter Parker. Some guy mugs Betty Brant and Spidy goes quite understandably ape shit, interrogating goons violently and threateningly enough to make Batman wet himself. Meanwhile the gang are at the hospital getting really angry at Peter for not being there to support Betty so Aunt May calls Peter and calls him out on it. Peter realizes he’s in the wrong, gives up on revenge and goes to support his friend. PERFECT SPIDERMAN STORY! It’s got all the guilt, its got Spidy rising above and being the better man but he still manages to get back the thing that was stolen from Betty and still catches the mugger latter. AND there’s a B-story that’s just as well written! Why aren’t you buying ASM? It’s AMAZING!

Black Panther: the man without fear FEAR ITSELF issue 521:

So the Thor thing’s hammer falls to earth and on it’s way it hits the ghost of a super villain KKK member, that was in space, it drags the ghost racist to earth who possesses a neo Nazi, Giving him mind control powers. Comics are weird.

Ultimate death of Spiderman, Avengers vs. New Ultimates issue 6:

There’s a big fight in North Korea, Tony Stark’s brother dies? Both the Avengers and the New Ultimates win the day, there’s a revolution in Iran and Carol Danvers is replaced by Nick Fury as head of SH.I.E.L.D.

WHAT DOES ANY OF THIS HAVE TO DO WITH SPIDER MAN DIEING

Fear itself Spider-man issue 3:

Spiderman fights the Thor-Thing for a whole issue in a hospital while protecting everyone in the hospital. It’s pretty badass.

Thunderbolts fear itself issue 160:

Pretty trippy section of this story where Ghost phases into the Thor-Juggernaught’s soul with the help of Satanna. The art goes all cave painting-ish. I like it. Plot wise it’s just the Thunderbolts trying to stop the Thor-Juggernaught from destroying Chicago.

Flashpoint Deathstroke and the curse of the Ravager issue 2:

Do you really need me to tell you this is awesome? It’s about super powered Pirates fighting! How could that not be awesome?

Flashpoint Citizen Cold issue 2:

Citizen Cold fights all the Rogues and the Pied Piper and gets really bloody. Pretty basic stuff. I’ll still read it to the end though, there’s only 1 issue to go so I might as well.

Flashpoint Emperor Aquaman issue 2:

Aquaman sends two Aquaman characters to kill someone in new themyscira. They fail because they’re Aquaman characters. We get a bit about Aquamans new origin in the flashpoint universe, makes him sound like a prick. They set up a fight between Aquaman and Wonder Woman. I expect Aquaman will lose and I expect that will teach him for swimming alone.

Flashpoint Booster Gold issue 46:

Booster fights Doomsday who’s being mind-controlled by the military to fight super human threats but whose destructive nature has Brocken loose of the pilot’s control. He’s on the rampage, causing mass death and destruction. He’s basically an evangellion. Pretty fun.

Deadpool 40:

The tone of this issue of Deadpool is a little more serious than usual. DP has been trying to get himself killed for the past 3 or 4 issues. Intentionally killed. The last thing he tried was nuking the hulk, which very almost worked, but the hulk worked out that he was bluffing and got him sent to a mental hospital. Back to the tone: DP really comes off as a dangerous crazy guy in this one much more than usual. I thing they’re trying to develop the character by discussing the darker side of his personality. I’m cool with that because I always liked it when they treated his insanity and origin semi-seriously before but it feels weird reading a Deadpool comic where he freaks out at people for looking at him without his mask on.

Superman 713:

Hell yes! I love the grounded story line! Clark Kent says he’s going to give up being Superman because he’s only endangering people by being out in the open blah blah blah. Luckily however a Superman fan sees the report he’s writing about this for the planet and sets him straight. What’re you on about Superman? People fear and resent you? No we don’t! Look lets ask everyone in town. See everyone loves you, you are secular Jesus. Not get out there and start saving everyone!

I read a bunch of other stuff but this has taken way too long as it is so I’m just gonna rattle through them.

Green Lantern Corps 61: I hate John Stewart and therefore this comic pissed me off.

Hellboy THE FURY 2 of 3: Not a clue what’s going on here, Hellboy fights a dragon though.

X-men Schism 1: I’m not all that confused! I just read an X-men comic AND I HAVE SOME IDEA WHATS GOING ON!!

Ghost Rider Fear Itself 1: I’ve been wanting to get into G.R. for a while and just as I get round to it they’ve changed who Ghost Rider is. Pfft.

The Iron Age featuring The Fantastic Four: Dooms in it so it’s awesome.

Ok so that’s last week’s comics. I’ll literally be going out to get more comics in about 2 hours so, YEAH.

See you soon for the comic book quickies SHONEN JUMP SPECTACULAR
